2 ROCKS - what to do?

Well have been a bit quiet of late, working through a number of issues, as funds will allow...

To cut a long story short, those that recall my threads about the fuel pump...eventually turned out to be the washers on the injectors (allowing compression to slip past preventing starting)...or did it????

In the last 3 weeks or so since the washers were swapped starting has been improved, but on 3 occasions he has failed to start, requiring repeated cranking and throttle application to get going.

Prior to discovering this, the guys at DA thought it might be a problem with the fuel rail within the head, which would necessitate a new head.

So far the fuel pump has been replaced, the fuel block cleaned and inspected, a new fuel filter fitted and of course the new injector washers, yet still the problem persists.

Right now, I can't trust him. Not to get to work, let alone go away anywhere. Going in for a 200k service on Friday and I know I will probably need new front discs and maybe rears plus new passenger doorlock mechanism.

I have been fighting this issue, which included de-laminated turbo hoses, while wanting to get the CDL kit installed and the continual display of the 3 amigos means I need to do the shuttle valve too.

So I'm asking myself, just how much do I love my Landy? Can I and do I want to keep put band-aids on it? Will I ever get him to the stage where he's reliable again and I can trust him for what I want to do?

The other day I had to go and pick up some window clip for the Wrangler and I saw this, and I realised (from what I've read on the Jeep forum) that I'd be free of a lot of this pain, even if it is at the expense of some room - at least it's not a Jap-Korean IFS thing, and I already know people who can look after it for me!

Long range tank, bash plates, wheel carrier, uhf, barwork, 3.0 CRD and electronics that work...Just needs a cargo barrier, snorkel, lift and some proper tyres...

What to do? If only Slunnie would sell me his D2...

    Cheers

    Use vehicles offroad...

    Poor electrics actually...

Sit back, find a better mechanic...... Spend the correct amount on the vehicle, not Bandaid fixes and it'll run true.

    Hi Tombie
Yes but then there's the seals on the rear windows and Alpine windows to do, and the aircon blend motor that fries my leg every summer (the passenger side is fine ) plus the above. I guess it's sucked up about 4k in remedial work, in the last 12 months, not taking into account the positives like the lift, tyres and normal servicing etc, so I'm starting to wonder just where it will end and when the fun might begin...

I will be in WA in late July, I will give you $1000 for it and take away all that stress, I'm sure I can back load it.
On a serious note, all things mechanical cost money.

Hi JB - that's kind of what I've been thinking, I've already spent a load that I'd be handing over to someone else to just build on by fixing the things I can't at the moment. I do expect things to go wrong, it's a machine, but with 200 thou on the clock, and these ongoing issues I just seem to be chasing fault after fault and not getting to use it. And I sure don't trust it to go away anywhere right now...Y'know I'd have to say that my Wrangler is as preposterously reliable as my ancient NE Pajero was.

    Angus,
I never said it was pretty but it's got some nice extras I wouldn't need to fork out for. Not least of which Quadra Drive II with the factory locking diffs front & rear...I know it's done a lot less k's than the D2, but I couldn't believe how quiet it was and I'd love to be able to drop that Merc CRD into the Landy with 160kW as stock (wonder if AMG make a chip?)...Well I did the sums and it won't be for me but some lucky sod will be getting into a very nicely set up Grand that just needs a lift, snorkel, cargo barrier and the usual odds and sods to stir up Niss-yota boys and girls on the track....

And I guess if I change enough things on the Disco, maybe there won't be anything left to go wrong...
    Cheers
