    That rear door lock

Yep this is a known problem.

It is not always the "dust"or wear and tear.
How about a BRAND NEW.. (2001 series 2...different rear handle set up to series 1.?.no key option) model driven from Melb. to Brisbane on bitumen.
I had a top-half dog/cargo barrier fitted and loaded en route to cape york.

The door refuses to open in Brisbane and I can't get to the interior panel etc.
Took it to the dealer under warranty and he could not open it either!
We eventually removed the barrier from inside and levered the corner of the door lining and with some wire hooked the latch.
    Temporary fix.
Locking assembly removed and lubricated as LR dealer was closing on Fri night.
2 hours later same problem ...and this continued intermittently all the way to the cape and back.
I ended up with a "Heath-Robinson" pull-cord attached and no door lining, so that I could open rear door from rear seat.
Removed adjusted/cleaned /siliconed spray etc etc several times en route = no difference still intermittent and sometimes failed immediately after "repairing ie. next attempt at opening '...NOT HAPPY JAN!!!

Back in Melbourne 2001, dealer fitted NEW solenoid latch assembly and no problem since..touch wood.

Having owned Landrovers for many years I thought myself lucky that this was the only problem we encountered!!!!
    Why do I persist?

    cheers
    Bob
