The outer one is a press fit into a hole, but the inner one is clamped between two cheeks by the bolt through the middle. It is supposed to be clamped too tightly to move, but if it is slightly loose, it will move slightly on articulation, giving exactly the sound you describe. It will only get worse, and will damage the cheek pieces as well as the bolt. If there is sufficient wear, just tightening the bolts will not fix it.
Other possibilities, as suggested, are tie rod ends, or possibly loose steering box or pitman arm. Another possibility is a cracked chassis, probably near one of the suspension mounting points.
