could be the Traction control kicking in.
HI everyone - not familiar with my Landy yet; very much the novice- hoping you can help.
Going on uneven surfaces, side of the road, speed humps ... just when i'm getting to grips with my new vehicle; i hear a growlling noise (no smartyass comments now!). Everytime i go up my neighbours treacherous drive. What can this be?? Would really appreciate your opinions as I got the alarm thingy fixed with your tried & true strategies. Thanks, Nich![]()

Good point, sounds plausible but don't think traction is always required in some of my mild incline circumstances. Does the traction control make that kind of noise?? Ta, Nich
If it is TC then the light should illuminate on the dash, though if it only very briefly comes on I remember it was sometimes to quick.
I remember there was one corner in town that turning left the TC used to always give a quick grumble and the light didn't come on. The Puma's TC doesn't bat an eyelid on the same corner, so it was something to do with the Disco's set up.

It sounds like it is the TC cutting in.It is pretty sensitive and the cane toad noise is the shuttle valves operating as the wheel sensors detect changes in individual wheel speed. The TC light may not come on even briefly if the event is only short, just the noise.
At least you know it is working.
Hi Nichster,
You will find the noise is the TC, at first I was a little alarmed as it was the first vehicle I have driven with TC. It does seem to be quite sensitive, I find potholes and edges of roads, etc seem to activate it reguarly, but don't worry just learn to ignore it. If you have ever been for a drive in the latest 200 series Land Cruiser offroad then you will hear very similar sounds from its traction control. The system in the disco does work well offroad, so maybe take it for a spin and test out how well it copes with tough conditions, the noise might even be reassuring.

TC - its quite loud. When it happens floor it and your will hear it working even more and the lights will come on aswell on the dash....assuming it is the TC its all very nice.
Cheers
One other thing that it "may" be, is your tyres rubbing on the inside of the guards, or mudflaps.
You may find that as the suspension compresses, the tyre just rubs slightly. I get the same sort of cane toad noise as I go into my driveway with the new, slightly larger tyres.
Cheers Baz.
