You know, I might consider doing the same if they sold the Iveco Massif here.... with coil springs..... and decent traction control.... and without the silly looking lights and windscreen.... and the odd roof profile.....

.....ahh bugger it, who am I kidding. I'm here for life.

I've had Landy's for over thirty years with oil leaks, broken axles, no power, poor electrics and so forth. I've also had the odd Landcruiser, no oil leaks or broken axles, plenty of power, reliable electrics, decent factory and dealership backup. Their only problem - theyr'e not a Land Rover.

    Perhaps we're all crazy.

All the best with your new 4WD. At least you had a go.

    BUT I should explain....

My old man (though he's only 52 so not that old) is very sick, and doesn't have much of a stretch left. So we bought him a small property in Monarto SA, where he can go, relax, enjoy the clean fresh air, and just get away from it all.

We bought the D2 cuz it was cheap, looked great, and was highly recommended as the most capable 4WD around... But no one mentioned that there are some serious reliability issues (even though to many of you its nothing that cant be fixed with some time, elbow grease and a few $$$).

He was our problem... time is not something my old man has a lot of.... neither me or my old man have any sort of mechanical sense, or do we wish to spend our final days learning such skills.... and finally, overall cars are supposed to be enjoyed.... (unless its an Alfa-Romeo apparently)

So anyway, here's an update - We just went in to the local Nissan dealer and bought a Brand New Navara D22. I know these have had a few problems of their own, but mostly not until a few years and several kms (which we will not really be raking up as we will probably only do about 8,000-10,000km per year)

Also I explained to the dealer my dad's situation and basically got him to put in writing that if anything should go wrong within the first 3 year warranty period they will provide a 4WD of some sort for the entire time the D22 is being repaired.

Factor in the 50% small business allowance which we qualify for, and the fact that we got the car for $33,000 drive away, and we are THRILLED!

hopefully one day I will re-join the LR owner club, but for now, I just need piece of mind and reliability - I have enough "character" in my life with having Herbie as a car!

Anyway, thanks to all the well-wishers, you are a great bunch of blokes and the camaraderie here is truly a testament to your devotion to your LR's.

In my opinion LR should be ashamed that they have done literally nothing (in fact less than nothing by not ensuring that their dealer provided service system is not a joke) for the die hard LR owners.

I am a lawyer by trade (sorry) and I believe there is sufficient grounds for a class action in regard to 3 Amigos as they effect the ABS system which is an advertised safety aspect of the Disco 2's. Due to the commonality of the problem there is grounds to call for a recall at the very least or an extended time warranty of some sort on the component for a reasonable period (say 10 years or 200,000km - ave km per year for Aust. car).

Someone needs to put LR to question on this, as it is not only poor business, but in fact fraudulent practice as the arguably known fault is creating a great deal of revenue for LR by way of spare parts sales, which in essence are a result of LR poor manufacturing standards.

There is a strong case to be heard, and if you band together the cost of such an action would be minimal compared to the possible reward, especially given how much some are spending on repairs, which often need to be done again and again.

I am happy to do more research on the issue, and although nothing in Law can be guaranteed as a certainty, I would be more than happy to offer my services to test the waters.

In any event, thank you all again for your support, advice and well wishes in all my posts.

    Regards

Good on you supasquad....just because you now don't have a landy doesn't mean you have to leave the forum.

    Always, family comes first.

Apart from the 3 amigos debacle, don't get me started on the oil pump bolt failure....LRA - ...

    Supasquad – I agree entirely.

I love the LR vehicles but my current disco will probably be my last - the problem is not so much the vehicles, it’s the dealer network, they are completely incapable of diagnostics – how many Amigoed cars are there and they still can’t sort it….

If I was to upgrade to a L322 with the multiple varieties of ECU and BUS combinations varying from year to year it would be even more of an issue – My disco spent more time at the dealer than not in the first 13 month of ownership – I was the stereo type of a "Land Rover Owner" – you know the guy that needs 2 because one is always in the shop. It is only the fact that it is our second car that kept me from the asylum and after a while my hatred of LR Aus drove me to keep taking it back and make then fix it. Oddly it has been perfect and not missed a beat since the initial issue that took 13 months was sorted (in the end it only needed a new engine ECU).

The Jap makers have their quality at a higher standard – maybe an advantage of introducing no new technology - and add the fact that there are many more dealers encourages some competition between them.

Funny thing is my brother Purchased a D3 couple of years ago because his 100 series Cruiser gave heaps of expensive problems. So I suppose they all have their faults…

Good luck mate and enjoy his company while you can…

Don't really know what to say to you Supasquad except that you and your dad have my sincerest best wishes.

That was a tremendous offer from you to help out in the fight against LR witha class action. Very generous of you. I hope the guys take you up on this when you have the time available. Thank you!

And no need to leave the forum. Always a chair available at the table for you and yours. Regards. Grumbles.

All the very best, enjoy life with the 'old' man, that comes first

And like others have said, no need to leave, stick around for the yarns, or even, like quite a few of the Tassie members who dont own an LR, come here for the chat/trip organisation/sharing of pics etc, you get the drift.

    Cheers,

    Thanks again guys

To all who have wished me well, thanks again, you are a real top bunch of blokes. Just thought I'd give you an update. Picked up the Nissan Navara D22 yesterday and drove the old man straight up to the property in Monarto. When we got up there, I just out, set the wheel locks and off we went. Got around every part of the property without a problem, and best of all, my old man was smiling from ear to ear the whole time

Regardless of what car you do it in, going off road or any kind of 4wd is just something that cant be replicated. It was truly something me and the old man will have as a memory for a long time, too bad it wasn't a Landy we did it in, but nonetheless, it was thoroughly enjoyed!
