    Rear Recovery Point

I was just wondering whether I can use the LR towbar as rear recovery point or I need to attach D shackle and use it as rear recovery point?

Use a shackle in a tow block in the receiver. You can get these from most ARB, OL, TJM, etc, etc, stores.

Whilst I won't say I haven't done it, it's not advisable to use the tow bar, especially the ball. If all else fails, and you absolutely have to, lay a hessian bag or a large towel over the ball to act as a dampener should it all go wrong.

Don't attach to the tow ball - deadly.

You won't have any dramas doing that.

For my trip this weekend I have removed my ball and put a shackle through the eye on the hitch. Should do the job.

I have also strapped an old backpack to the spare wheel so I can roll the snatch strap up and leave it connected.

No mate, common practice for rear recovery. Just harder to get to the pin.

You can pick up a recovery hook bow as mentioned above from about $50 plus...just slides into the receiver, is secured by the pin, and it has a rated shackle.

Thanks for all your input guys. I read on one of the thread that suggest not to use bow shackle. What is the diff between D and Bow shackle?
Next to the receiver has 2 holes that I can attach the shackle, can I do that?
