    2001 VS 2003

    Hi
    I have a 2001 D2 ES V8 that I have owned for 12 months, 120,000km no CDL.
It is my second Disco having a D1 for 4 years previously.

I have noticed a 2003 HSE V8 for sale same milage 120,000 same options possibly a few more.
It will probably cost me about $5000 to change over.

My question is there any other advantages other than CDL that would make the change worthwhile.
    thanks in advance
    Steve

There was quite a long list of changes with the update model, I am sure that has to be a list somewhere I believe it was in the order of a couple of hundred differences. most are so minor you will not notice them.

As you said the return of the factory Centre diff Lock is a big bonus, I'd also say the headlights are far superior to the older models. ( I had a 2000 before my current 2003). The dash is slightly different in layout.. (Including the fuel filler button moving)

I know there were some minor engine changes too... ( not sure if you are talking about a V8 or a TD5.. but with the TD5 the 2003 and later models have a cat converter and the EGR valve set up is different.

I am sure someone else will pop along to fill in the many gaps I've left

    Cheers,

    2003 3 Amigos

    Thanks guys.

Yeh what the ..... it is only money!

One more question I just struggled through fixing the 3 amigos in my 2001 1 month ago, am I right in expecting the same in the 2003 or were Landrover smart enough to get it right by then??

Just buy it for the headlights
I think the 03 models still do have troubles with the 3 amigo's, a mate has an 03 d2 td5 and he has just finnished fixing the amigo's problem, i think he replaced the ABS system or similar

I just Know I am going to regret saying this..... but here goes

My 2003 has had no sign of 3 amigo drama's... the 2000 had heaps. I have been told the updates can still have the issue, but it is far less likely.

Maybe on of the guys here that work in a land rover workshop could pitch in and confirm that.

My 01 built (late) compliances 02 based model manual V8 has had no dramas really and certainly no more (despite twice the ks) as my mates 03 new lights model - we both bought them new from the same place and have had them serviced the same - mine has done much much more offroading and heavy towing too....both manual V8s....I dont believe there is anything worthwhile in it frankly apart from CDL but even that is a bit overrated given where I have gone without it...but of course anyone who has the later one or upgraded will prefer the later one...human nature.

    Cheers

Mine's an 02/04 build, 04/04 complianced D2a Auto ... the wifes had 2 x S&M gearbox light showings ... starting NOT in Park (I think, she couldn't remember) ... ignition off/on and restart, all gone.

Maybe 4 or 5 times (in the 2 months we've owned the vehicle) we've had the ABS - T/C - HANDBRAKE LIGHT come on with 2 x warning chimes ... on all occasions this happened when pulling up at an intersection whilst veering to the left hand side of the lane to make a left hand turn ... pull over, stop, restart, all lights clear except the ABS light which then clears as you drive away ... I think in all cases there's been loose gravel underfoot as we pull up ... and why the HANDBRAKE LIGHT with the abs & t/c lights ??

I've Nanocomed the beast, and no faults are reported (except a 22-1 Road Speed Missing Fault which I've cleared and haven't checked again to see if it's returned).

... so far, I'm putting it down to Land Rover electronics ... only had the Nanocom for less than a week, so I'm still learning (exceptional tool btw !)
