gotta love it when a plan comes together![]()
Just had a big bunch of (big) overseas visitors stay for a couple of weeks which required daily trips all over Victoria covering about 2,500Klms all up. This was a big test for the D2 and meant 7 people (in this case about 500Kg) on top of a 2" lift (with the inherrant increase in body roll).
I was a bit concerned the SLS and ACE would fail through fear alone, especially with the higher CG, but all good.
The D2 was basically on its bump stops after all 7 of us boarded, doors shut, and 20 seconds later all level and ready to go. Now how many vehicles can do that!
The ACE reduced the roll to almost negligable level around corners.
Very happy with the strength of these two systems.
The King springs and Bilstein shocks fitted with the 2" lift were a bit on the soft side for the increased weight, but the ACE compensated exceptionally well around corners. However unneven roads at highway speeds had the back two passengers thinking they were in a boat at times.
No problems, no failures, I treated the V8 with a bit of extra care and it pulled us along with ease even up long inclines. The only change to my normal driving was to leave the transfer box in "sport" mode.
Thats my story.![]()

Hey mate,
I have just got a 99 ES V8 my self, and think I may have a leaking rear right bag, So figure replacing one why not just do both and lift it.
This been my first LR and air bag set up dont know much, can you lift the rears and what do I need, I have found new bags for $200 but no one seems to say anything about lifting them only converstion.
But as another post said why get a bag car just to change them.
keggs, have a look in the veranda section there were some air bag lift kits for sale in there. also i think there is a tut in the projects section with photos on whats involved.
cheers phil

With a 2" lift, be sure to get your front propshaft rebuilt at some stage as the more severe operating angles will eventually kill the double cardan joint. You may already know about this....![]()
If you have the new bags, a 10mm open end spanner, 1 flat blade screwdriver and an axle stand, changing both rear air bags will take about 1 hr. or less if you've done it before.
The "Good Oil" is the section where the moderators add all the technical stuff we post up and there are plenty of tutorials to look at. Have a look there first and/or for airbag replacement read the attachment below.
I had my lift done by AMV in Ringwood and very happy with the result.
http://www.aulro.com/afvb/discovery-...inch-lift.html I have a 12 month warranty with the 2" lift which also helps me sleep at night.
As Tempest says, it will increase the angle through the prop, but it would be so slight that I would not have thought this really poses much additional concern. I have geasable unis on my front prop as an after market re-build, but if I didnt, I'd be getting it done even without the lift.
