    BROKEN WIRE

Was under the bonnet today, just poking around doing some preventative maintenance and found a couple of wires that were rubbing on the bell housing on the passenger side just behind the turbo. This is on a 01 TD5 Disco. I was about to put some of that black plastic tubing over them to protect them when I noticed that one of the wires was alot looser than the other as if it wasnt connected at the other end.
Couldnt even see where the other end goes but it looks like it goes to the other side of the eng, and meets up with some sort of loom.
The two wires were yellow and black, and they go into a plug behind the oil filter somewhere. The black wire is the problem.
Does anyone know what these wires do, and whats not going to be working if one is broken.

    Cheers,

    Cheers,
    G'day,
Just cheeked mine as I have access to them.

Very fine wires, my conduits bracking up too.

OIL PRESHURE switch mounted off oil cooler.

I assume the motor should shut down if no signal ?? Don't know for sure.

    Cheers.

Did the oil light show op on the dash before starting?(bulb check)

Being a black wire I guess its an earth?

Outher breads of cars use the diffrences in voltage (1 volt and up) to feed signals to ECU.

    Cheers.

yeah mate, the oil light came up, and then went away after starting as normal.

Im sure its got to of come away from whatever it plugs into at the other end, as I pulled it out a good 2 or 3 inches before I stopped when putting on the new conduit and the yellow one has no movement at all.

    Cheers

Don't worry , the black wire isn't needed, the oil pressure switch only has 1 terminal in it, the yellow wire is connected to it. The black wire is just poked back through the loom and sits there, not connected.

Thanks a heap for that JC.

Thats one thing I can cross off the list. The things you find when you start looking around can soon add up.

    Cheers mate.

That wire can also be used for a turbo boost gauge or an oil pressure gauge for exact pressure monitoring.

Had a good look at mine last weekend as we are going away shortly, one wire goes across the bell housing & the black conduit has all perished,i replaced it.

Also check the bunch of wires that go across the front of the engine & some go to the A/C compresser. The conduit on them had also perished & some were rubbing on something.I replaced the conduit on them as well. There's a lot of wires in the bunch.
