Question Rally Trip Computer Install into D2a

I am installing a rally style trip computer into our TD5 D2a.

The unit requires a 0-5v or 0-12v pulse to read the vehicle speed. Does anyone know whether the D2 uses a pulse signal to feed the speedometer? I have found the wire that provides the speed signal to the speedometer from the SLABS (Pink-green) and tested it with a multimeter but it does not appear to give any pulse readings. I am assuming that the SLABS might get a speed signal from somewhere else and convert it to some sort of data signal to send to the speedometer. Where does the D2 get its speed signal from (usual location at rear of transfer case or somewhere else like ABS sensors)???

If I can't access a pulse signal anywhere, I will have to go to plan B and install a wheel probe. Not the preferred option though as there is more work involved to make a bracket etc and the probes are susceptable to getting damaged.

    Cheers,
    Chris

    Hi Chris,
The speed pulse from SLABS is indeed on a pink/green wire - I would have to lookup the pin but I suspect you have the wire. The pulse is 50% duty cylcle at 12V and is at the rate of 5000 per km plus a stationery pulse of 1 per second.

I use the pulse for my ACE speed pulse generator.

Edit. A multimeter with duty cycle & Hz functions will see the pulse.

There is 2 places with speed signals.

One at the SLABS, and one at the Hi fi amp. When I installed the Nav system, I originally used the one under pass seat to the Hi fi amp, but this did not work, so I tapped into the one behind the drop down panel running up to the instrument pack.

Its the large GREEN connector with a "built in" lever to remove it down by the pedals on the main harness, tap into the pink / green wire there and you should be good.

    Thanks Graeme.
I have a RAVE manaul so am confident I have the correct wire.
The stationary pulse is the one that had me confused. This may also confuse the trip meter by it thinking that the vehicle is still mobile. Might do a trial hookup next weekend and see how it behaves.

    Cheers
