I replaced the I/C in my D2a with a bigger one whilst the ecu was standard. Performance on hot days became much the same as on cooler days, especially noticible going up long hills with the a/c working. Previously the engine performed poorly on the heat so this was a significant and welcome improvement. There was a very minor improvement in light throttle response but certainly not worth the cost of a larger I/C just for this.
I obtained the I/C s/h and hoped it would solve a throttle delay problem (it didn't) but wanted a bigger I/C before any ecu remap and ended-up getting a Tombie job.
