    d2a intercooler into d2

i have noticed it is a possible conversion . offers a greater surface area but how would it compare to an aftermarket unit ? i expect i could get the d2a from a wreck at a decent price compared to a new one so as a for now hypothetical what would be the better option?

Without meaasuring, I'm pretty sure the D2 core is about 1/2 thickness of the tank, the D2a is about 3/4 thickness and the aftermarket ones are full thickness of the tanks and also full aluminium.

D2A coolers are as wide as the tanks and the core is a more efficent design. the D2 one is more like a radiator in its appearance where as the D2a core looks like an aftermarket IC...if that makes sence

    cheers phil

I replaced the I/C in my D2a with a bigger one whilst the ecu was standard. Performance on hot days became much the same as on cooler days, especially noticible going up long hills with the a/c working. Previously the engine performed poorly on the heat so this was a significant and welcome improvement. There was a very minor improvement in light throttle response but certainly not worth the cost of a larger I/C just for this.
I obtained the I/C s/h and hoped it would solve a throttle delay problem (it didn't) but wanted a bigger I/C before any ecu remap and ended-up getting a Tombie job.

The pics below show the difference in thickness of the 2 intercoolers.
