The lifters not being upright shouldn't be a problem, my laid flat and I haven't had any problems.

had to knock it round with hammer and a screw driver. how the hell you get it off with the head and exhaust manifold on is a mystery..

I used a belt filter removal tool with the socket handle below and to the rear of the filter. The turbo heat shield was always left in place too.
