Hi all, thanks for your replies.

Doesn't the exhaust manifold make a more tick tick noise? not on a TD5 most ppl describe it like you have, words like chirping, squeeling etc.
I will look at the exhaust manifold, though the noise is there whether in gear or neutral and does not alter if I rev it in neutral. I did try the foot on the brake and accelerator and the noise stopped when the brakes were applied.
I will also look at the vacuum lines though the EGR has been removed and I did plug the T piece, maybe it has come loose."The noise is happening regardless of vehicle motion, but ceases when brakes applied?
If this is the case I would be looking at the vacuum lines from booster and alternator."
The noise seems to be something to do with the rotation of the wheels and can be heard clearly on either side of the car eg passenger window down. This makes me also tend towards the brake pads.
I didnt mention that I live in the Adelaide Hills and the noise starts after driving at higher speed eg 100km/hr but once it starts it continues at low speeds as well. So it could be possibly heat related. The noise is not there when the car is stationary.
Thanks again and appreciate further thoughts.
Cheers
David
