Yes, like you see at 5:20 in the clip below.

Are they common, or something that nobody coughed up the extra for? I think it would beat winding up or down the jockey wheel every time.

I looked at one today, it did have ACE, despite what the dealer said, but coils, not air rear. The only thing I didn't like was the colour of the coolant, it looked dirty, and was low, and the cover off the top of the engine was missing. When asked about a service history, they said it had one but it was at the workshop, and the workshop was closed for the day.

I have driven two with Ace now, I must try and drive one without ACE to see if I really want it. Maybe a manual too.

The idea of ACE is to let the LR supple suspension still do its thing off road ( its BETTER off road, at the front, than the non-ACE version ) while taking away all body roll on road.

It does both these things very well.

But are the non-ACE ones set up hard for cornering, or soft for off road. I will use it mostly for towing.

    on the D2,
    soft springs,
    hard shocks,
big sway bars,,(trying to keep a TALL 2Tonne 4WD from leaning)

if towing is the go,, just find an auto with SLS,,

If you really want to see how good ACE is you need to find one of those tight freeway on ramps.
Just feel how tight it is under full power.
Remains the same with tall tyres and lifted suspension.
A Pootrol or Landbruiser would fall on its side with the tyres and lift.

    Jeff,

I first bought a D2A 7 seater with sls and tow a camper and 6 of us in the car. Towing is fantastic, the self levelling just means that the car sits flat and doesn't wonder. I wanted to go for the creature comforts over and above what i had and found a 2000ES. I currently drive both and will sell the D2a shortly. The ACE is very noticeable at low and high speed the car doesn't seem to rock and roll as much on poor tight corners. They are hard to find with ACE. The two models that were standard with ACE are the SE7, ES and HSE the rest were optioned. Keep test driving the with and without, because you are looking at highish mileage cars, find out not only the service history but also the service items have a look at the records kept, i.e. shuttle valves in the ABS replaced, injector harness,Discs and pads, Bearings, filters and oils for ace, transmission etc. If it has details on what has been spent on it it is worth paying the premium if it doesn't then talk down the price because these are possible expenses.

    Good luck

    Nankas
