    ACE Questions and others

I am looking for a D2, and have been reading a lot of threads about others in a similar quest. Most get answered with 'do a search'. I did numerous searches and have spend hours reading, but some things remain unanswered. I have a Defender that I will be keeping, so it will do most of the hard core off roading, the Disco will be mostly for towing my 1100 kg race bike trailer.

    1. Most say that ACE is worth having, but how much more would you pay for it compared to one without?

    2. Do all D2s come with remote control height adjustable rear suspension, or only those with ACE?

    3. Do lift kits work with ACE?

    4. Which models had the centre diff lock?

    OK, here goes...

1 - How much is it worth. Hmmm... Interesting question but I don't think I could put a price on it.

2 - Rear suspension - No! The remote control bit is an optional extra but an option you can only have if you have the rear air springs.

    3 - ACE & Lifts... Yes.

4 - Centre Diff. I can't remember but it has been the subject of many a discussion.

ACE was not a standard feature on any Oz models and is unrelated to rear self-levelling suspension. ACE was a $3,500 factory option on any model.

The CDL was omitted from about 2001 but re-introduced complete with lever and modified ABS ecu in all Oz MY03 update models (twin-pocket headlights) which were built from late 2002 onwards.

Don't be put off buying a 2001 or 2002 D2 just because it doesn't have the cdl internals. I recently had a cdl installed in my 2002 by an RL specialist for $700, admittedly without an actuator. Small potatoes really. A homemade under car linkage for $0 will fix that problem.

ACE is awesome, and the least troublesome system on a D2.
Look for a "double" power steering bottle,ie 2 lids if you are looking at online under bonnet pics.
ALL 7 seaters have the rear air suspension, optional on 5 seaters.
I thought 7 seaters also got ACE,but maybe only in the Hi Spec models.
The way the prices are dropping, only consider the 2a updates(D3 style headlights and instruments),all the gremlins sorted and a factory operational CDL.

I looked at a couple yesterday, one 7 seater TD5 that was pretty rough, so was the salesman. It had ACE, then we looked at a 7 seater V8 that didn't have ACE, was in fantastic condition, but was out of our price range. Two others we saw adverised were not able to be seen at the dealers due to various stuff ups. One of these has ACE but is $6000 more.

    Its not worth 6 grand!!

but is worth more than a sunroof,,
and about equal to a bullbar.

as with all 2nd hand cars

low kays is the most important thing.

    you can always add extras,,
you cant take away the usage.

From the description, the dearer one might be in a bit better condition, has a few accessories and slightly lower kms (180,000 vs 205,000). But I didn't see either of them in the flesh, yet.

    Hey Jeff,,
    when you say "remote control"

do you mean lowering the rear by a TV-like "remote control"??

cos, no,, those were an option on the rear air option,,

    typically Discowhite has one,,,
