The Bilstein shocks quoted in my original post are standard length shocks, as I am replacing my springs with std height springs as I do not need the lift and do not want to compromise entry to my garage, parking stations etc. I have seen part numbers for extended length shocks quoted in other threads.

    Cheers,
If you increase your spring length, you need to increase your shocks extendable length regardless of how small it is otherwise you will smash the bottom of the valve in the piston on the bottom of the shock.

    Cheers

How would these shock rates ride??

    All,
I have been provided standard shocks rates from one of the USA suppliers of 304/93 for the fronts and 255/103 for the rear shocks. Any ideas as to how these would ride??

    Would greatly value any advice.
    Thanks
    Chris

    Guys,
I got a set of 4 bilsteins 2 years ago from
Timbren, Hellwig Helper Springs, Bilstein Shocks, Firestone, Air Spring Kits, Mile Marker Winch
Given the bilstein part numbers are identical here and in oz,
i doubt there is 'special australian valving'
They are awesome shocks and are delivered within a week.
I just wish i had bought the steering damper also.
I occasionly get emails from them advertising 3 for the price of 4?
    good luck tim

I run Bilstein 7100 remotes in my D2.
    Front 275/78 and rear 360/80

    I think it rides brilliantly!

from mt breif reasearch into the 7100's tombie's valvings are on the money for the D2. if you are going to carry heavy loads constantly (redback) in the rear of the D2 the 400/100 rates are prefered.
hopefully my 7100SB's will be ordered soon

    cheers phil

I used to read people's rave reviews of Bilsteins and just thought, "That is all very well for people who can afford them, but I will have to make do with something more affordable when the time comes to replace the shocks on the Defender."

Well the time came to replace them, so I started to look around at what was available.

I was quite keen on the idea of the Terrfirma shocks that DB reviewed. However since she bought hers, the price had gone up to about $150 each. All the other quality shocks that I looked at were not much cheaper, so I tried the US sources for Bilsteins.

I got a quote from eshocks.com for $US75 each and $US133.61 for freight. That brought the total to $US433.61. At last week's conversion rate that was $A497.73 although the bank seems to have added a fee of $14.49

So for $A512.22 and a delay of about one week, I have a set of Bilsteins sitting there waiting to be fitted.

If even half of what people have said about Bilsteins is true, I have a better set of shocks for less money than if I had bought in Australia.
