CDL - D1 linkage or D2A cable...and best place to get

    Hi all,

More for safety off road I am getting the CDL fitted which for me is not a cheap operation cause I hvae the box without the CDL internals in the output housing.

The bloke who is doing it for me has a D1 output housing and Im pretty sure he has a D1 linkage new inc shifter to activate it. THe problem is that I have read on here that the D1 linkage causes vibration and driveline noise in the cabin.

Now my D1 - I cannot tell if she gets that noise cause the whole truck is not quite as quiet as my D2 but if it is there I cannot here it and she has done nearly 280,000k.

I would prefer cable but it might end up costing me a fair bit extra cause he has had the D1 stuff in a box as stock for 4 years and is looking after me on the price of that...

So, who has installed the shifter using D1 and is it a drama? If so where is the cheapest place to source the D2A cable setup including shifter apart from a wreckers?

    Cheers

I got mine direct from Ashcroft transmissions in the UK..I am sure they also sell the internals for the transfer case.

Cant tell you about the D1 option..

    Hi Ozscott,

I have just done the same to my 02 sourced the housing and shifter from Rovacraft, they supply the ashcroft shifter and housing. works a treat and looks genuine.

Thanks for that fellas. The shifter with the cable is $800!! So I think I am going to go the D1 shifter which is much much cheaper. Can anyone suggest ways to minimise the noise transfer - such as bitumen tape of whatever...

    Cheers

My D2 has teh D1 links installed.
Found no problem due to vibration and noise from the vibration itself.
The lever does vibrate a bit though but all slop must be taken out of the installation.
This would eliminate the vibrating noise even if the lver moves.

The D2A "transfer cable" is better (read quieter) compared to D1 "transfer linkage" comes from the same marketing gurus at LR who added "Q" to D2 transfer # suggesting it had quieter bearings???

My understanding is the Q transfer cases had a different cut to the gears to make them quieter... Having said that the Q transfer case in my RRC whines just as much as the old one.

Try AMV for the D2a lever and cable, we got ours from them, also try other wreckers for the lever and cable, Rovercraft have the CDL internals although I think getting them direct from Ashcrofts is cheaper, if all this fails PM Bundalene.

There is another option, it can be soarced from the US as well.

One word of warning, don't be tempted to buy the electric actuator from AMV!!!
