Unhappy What diagnostic tool for a V8 Disco 2

What diagnostic tool can you buy that works on a Discovery 2 V8 year 2002? I have looked at a number of sites but they all seem to lead to TD5's?

I'm no expert on this yet I've been researching lately and asking myself this too lately. I'd really like to go for a Blackbox Faultmate FCR but it appears that they don't do one for the D2 and the other one they have, the MSV-2 is over twice the price. No good for me.

Other than that, Nanocom will read everything bar the V8 Bosch fault codes which I guess a generic OBDII reader could do anyway without the detail. Other than that, there is Hawkeye but there have been some bad reviews.

If someone with a D2 V8 has a idea I'm all ears too

I think they already do for the version 1 nanocom.

Firmware 2.06 has it. (extra purchased code)

I wonder if that include engine management manipulation like that of the TD5 Lucas EMS or just read OBDII codes etc? I'm more than happy to pay the money like that of the Faultmate MSV-2 so that I can tune my V8 like the diesel guys can with theirs. Otherwise, a simple code reader and fault reset module like the FCR will do me fine.

Hey RosiePosie - we knew it would happen... I saw you Saturday and my new toy arrived today

The Nanocom Evo 2 adds support for the Disco 2 V8, auto transmission and airbags. Shame I didn't have it on Saturday to try out on your Disco 2 so we could find out how what it can do.

See my other post for pics http://www.aulro.com/afvb/electronic...ml#post1515837

    Cheers, Paul.

    Hiya Guys

banarcus, i am so glad you have done your homework, when a company does not give exact detail of what functions and features it provides, there is usually a good reason as many have found to their dissapointment and cost.

    Hence the bad reviews.

While i am not personally everyones cup of tea, The MSV-2 system is certainly the penultimate system and despite it's cost, no one who has invested in one will tell you it is not worth every penny or cent.

It is certainly not comparable with Generic OBDII equipment, even just for the Motronic V8 engine management.

here is a link to the on line help page for the Motronic that details exactly what it provides access to.

    https://www.blackbox-solutions.com/shop/help/SM009.html

Although extensive, you will note the MSV-2 does not provide reflashing capability. Unlike the diesel guys there is so little need, market or demand for this on V8's, we did not develop this.

In respect of the Nanocom products capability for Motronic, we have furthered development of this to the same level and access capability of the MSV-2, although the MSV-2 does have some additional functionality such as HTML page saving, CSV and AVI capture.

But if you can live without these extra bells and whistles, then the Nanocom evolution, especially the new and nicely revised hardware version Paul has linked you to is very much the way to go.

    I hope this helps

WOW, I posted in this thread about five or so hours too early and should have heeded the "paitence" call! This is great news for V8 owners and just what I was looking for. I had a browse on your site Colin and noticed the Motronic page that you provided the link to. Pretty comprehensive.

When can we expect to see it officially on sale? All I need to do is convince the boss that this will save much hard earned in the future.

Good work Colin and thanks for reading my earlier comments and addressing them. You can expect an order from me down the track. Cheers, Mark.

    Hiya banarcus
Yes, i think quite a few have been watching and hoping that since we took on Nanocom, that we would indeed deliver this answer to the many Disco 2 V8 owners Prayers.

It has taken a few months and a bit of everyone's patience but finally It's now only a few days away from actually being available on our web shop.

The list is comprehensive, as we typically do not provide only enough capability to tick a box, or even just what can be accessed with a Main dealer tool. Our software development is not done by following or copying anything else, it is done entirely first generation on actual ECU's and utilizes in house developed permutation trying software that figures out everything that an ECU can actually provide diagnostically.

That's why our software provides information and access capability for systems such as the Secondary Air injection that is fitted only in certain markets and that we test this on real ECU's means reliable and dependable communications.

That's why the MSV-2 has always been the best and most capable equipment there is, that is until we applied our knowledge and experience to the Nanocom of course

I am sure you and the Boss will be very happy
