the 12v cable will not self start in the car, at least mine, nor will it stabilise the unit when it persistently shuts down or freezes, as mine does. mine wakes up on OBD or USB.

Hmm, mine will not self-start other than with usb. Looks like I need to send it back.
Has anyone had the pleasure of sending theirs back outside of warranty? If so, at what cost?
I would like to pull it apart, but the circuit board with the display wont budge.
I suspect it needs to be heated up to loosen the adhesive on the touchscreen. Something I am not comfortable in doing.

Stupid question - does the ignition need to be on for it to self start when plugged into the car?
I don't have mine yet, but lookingfor possible speed bumps for when it arrives in the next week or so.

I believe not, but maybe someone who has had less issues will be able to respond. I understand it self starts when the accessory plug is connected also.

NO. Plug in and start. BUT. It will only work on some systems with ign off, such as SLABS, ACE/Air Susp setting, airbags etc as they are stuff that you don't want to be messing with while underway. ECU, auto etc, stuff that requires the car to be running to provide feedback/input needs min ign on to see the ECU (just flashes a communication error).

The Nanocom should fire up when plugged into an OBDII socket alone, reagrdless of Ign state.

Not doing so but otherwise powering up via the USB indicates that there is damage to the built in power supply that converts 12 to 5V.

This is something that is relatively quick and easy to fix for us and we absolutely do not charge any more than the minimum we possibly can to sort it for you.

I suspect it needs to be heated up to loosen the adhesive on the touchscreen. Something I am not comfortable in doing.
Quite right, we use the adhesive surround as a disposable item that we cut off when dissasembling a unit, it kinda acts a a warrently label.

Heating this area up will result in the Touch screen membrane becoming detached from the screen that can then only be fixed by replacing the entire screen assembly that is quite costly.

    I hope this helps

Thanks Colin and good to have you back. I am in the process of returning the unit for repair.
Bit of a mystery why it buggered up in the first place though.

    FYI:
Postage to Cyprus registered mail $27
    Parts $7
    Labour $47
    Packing, shipping $70

Overall, an expensive exercise, but better to have it working than not.

    Thanks to BBS.

We all know the Greek economy is up the putt, but OUCH... that certainly does not sound right on a warranty claim.

Maybe you should question that bit? No harm in asking for clarification. I would think there are a lot of other BBS customers on here that would like to understand that bit a little better too.

    Dave,
Cyprus is actually a country on its own mate and part of the EU.
Compared to the US and UK though freight is murderously expensive both in and more so out.
Id think the Nanocom was returned via FedEx or DHL as the postage service leave a lot to be desired IMO especially if you ever wanted to see your package again lol
