Reading the fine print in the TestBook User Manual "TestBook" is indeed at trademark of Hewlett Packard, although the manual and all support services were provided by Omitech Instrumentation.

The company history states that they developed the MicroCheck system for Rover Group in 1988, which is probably the interface Colin refers to.

The History is also interesting reading in terms of what diagnostic development skills they have in house:

In 2000 Omitec Information Services Limited was established having been built from the publishing and diagnostic development team from BMW UK Operations. This team has been developed into a comprehensive OEM diagnostic and information management consultancy and development group.

Additionally, in 2000 Omitec acquired Equiptech Limited, which had developed an expert system for cataloguing and indexing the repair processes for all makes of cars.

Together these acquisitions allowed Omitec to develop sophisticated integrated tools that not only diagnose faults, but also provide information to support the repair of those faults.
In 2003, Omitec acquired Interro Systems, Inc, a California-based developer of specialist diagnostic tools with a world-leading digital automotive oscilloscope. Interro is now trading as Omitec Inc.

In 2006 Omitec Group acquired Crypton Limited, Autodiagnos Limited and Dieseltune Limited. These aftermarket companies have long histories and excellent products in diagnostics, exhaust gas analysis and MoT testing.

In 2007 Omitec acquired P-Tec Automotive Limited. This company provides specialist engineering consultancy in automotive electronics and electrical engineering to major vehicle manufacturers. Work packages are undertaken on a project basis. In 2009 Omitec Resources has been transferred into P-Tec Automotive and rebranded P-Tec Resources.

Across the Omitec Group about 400 people are employed, with over half holding engineering degrees or equivalent.
    Their current product range includes:

OmiPro Land Rover which was developed with Land Rover:
    Omitec : OmiPro Land Rover

Omitec UMC Land Rover Diagnostic Platform
Omitec : UCM Land Rover Diagnostics

OmiTec LandRover Mobile again developed with Land Rover
    https://www.workshopdirect.com/produ...d-rover-mobile
    From the product description:
The T4 range was built in conjunction with the manufacturer and is the ONLY tool that delivers the same diagnostic performance as Land Rover dealerships do.

Why the gear they are producing for Bearmach and Britpart was/is incomplete at launch I don't know. Budget constraints and deadlines imposed by the vendors is my guess.

    cheers

Just to add to the information above, came across this information on scanners

When Hewlett Packard got out of the automotive diagnostic business in 1999, Land Rover contracted with another company, Omnitec, to produce a more up to date system called the T4. Due to legislation in the US forcing auto manufacturers to make their technical and diagnostic information available to independent shops as of October 2003, the T4 system is now available to the public through Omnitec as their "T4" diagnostic system. The cost is £7,785 or about US$12,000. Also available from them is an optional hand held T4 tester covering 99-on models.
That suggests Omitec was still the developer/producer of LR Factory diagnostics in late 2003.

    cheers

    Lynx Diagnostic interface tool

I have just purchased a Lynx diagnostic tool. Its a great bit of kit although I have not used any of the other diagnostic tools available to compare against.
It is only linked to Discovery 2. I live on the Gold Coast if anyone would like to view it or use it to find faults or just a health check.
