The blown fuse several years ago, I put down to vibration / age / bad luck. Either way it appears to have been a one off issue.
Reading about the MAF, it measures the current required to maintain the wire temperature. Wondering if there is some form of current limiting which is being reached under full acceleration, potentially caused by increased resistance.
A closer look at the wiring, plug and socket is warrented.

. Looked like it was full of a grease like substance. All clean now and a new MAF, it drives like a different vehicle.
