The blown fuse several years ago, I put down to vibration / age / bad luck. Either way it appears to have been a one off issue.

Reading about the MAF, it measures the current required to maintain the wire temperature. Wondering if there is some form of current limiting which is being reached under full acceleration, potentially caused by increased resistance.

A closer look at the wiring, plug and socket is warrented.

If they over read like mine did , they go out of the ECU "plausible" range and the ECU reads 0.
Thus the need for boost boxes etc.

Spot on with the "gunked up" comment

. Looked like it was full of a grease like substance. All clean now and a new MAF, it drives like a different vehicle.
(the Nanocom fuel recording also show no zero point on the MAF)

Reading other parts on the forum, I suspect that the high fuel consumption was attributed to the gearbox not locking the torque converter (due to the maf). Time will tell.
