    And probably lighter?
    The Jag engine was heavy.

They aren’t actually worth a lot to be honest, they seem to be the entry level as far as classic Jags go - Being a Series 2 built by British Leyland, it’s value is somewhat less than what you may think.

Oooh, I like that idea! That would be a good transplant! - can you mate them up to a Turbo 400 auto easily as that box is a straight bolt in to the rest of the car, so anything that can be mated to it easily would be viable - one of the reasons the Chev V8 was so popular - they almost bolt straight in.

That would be something I’d look at if ever this engine goes to God - I doubt I’d spend the money rebuilding it if it did die, but hopefully I’ll get a few years yet out of it. 😊

CRS do a barra to T400 adapter, its the go to box for big hp motors. There is a falcon with a 1400hp barra fitted with a T400 on youtube.

That's half the battle over then and not an hour up the road to pick it up...

The TH400 will bolt straight into the Jag. The Series 2 XJ12 (same car as mine with the V12) made 295HP so Engineering shouldn't be that hard either., the rear end is unkillable and there's plenty of room up front for the engine. Barra engine is around 40 to 50Kg lighter than the 4.2 as well...

Could even use the TH700 from a V8 Dunny Door - for the power I'll want this would be fine and give a little more refinement and an overdrive for effortless, low rev freeway and open road cruising which the Jag is so good at.
Might start to quietly collect the bits I'll need...

    Rebuilt TH700 - $3,000
    Adaptor - $1,300
Engine - $4,000 for a NOS NA BF Engine - would need ECU, front accessories and other bits no doubt. Could probably pick up a whole car at a decent price and get everything I need, including cooling package, AC, etc. While the turbo engine would make it a monster, even as a NA engine with factory tune it almost matches what the V12 could do back in the 70's and would certainly push it along well.

Including faffing around and Engineering, should cost around $10 to $12K - what I paid for the car, but geez, wouldn't it be nice...

Well, you can get a complete car for a couple of grand that would have everything in it - for around the $4K mark you can get one with under 200,000Km on it and with a RWC and rego! For $2,500 one with under 200,000Km in a less well looked after car - Cheap donor vehicle with everything needed and would be so much fun to go buy one and not look over the vehicle, but just check the engine, and say you'll take it as the rest doesn't matter as it will be going down the tip...

I should stop looking now, I can't do this at the moment, but it would make a very viable, reliable conversion.

Yeah, looks like there are plenty out there. If I did it, I think a donor vehicle would be the way to go so I can grab everything I need to make it all work with all the factory stuff - would be much easier I think. Still just a thought at the moment, don’t have the time nor money to start something like this at the moment but it’s certainly the way I’d go if I ever need a new engine for it. What have I done...

a few years back .... I had those falcon motors coming up as sponsored adverts on facebook for $69.00 (entire long motor). The damn things just never wore out .... the wreckers were full of them and they had zero market value as no-one ever needed to replace them! Go the LPG version! It'll have higher compression ratio and solid conrods.
