Not sure about your age but remember you spend a lot of your time and energy at work and sometimes we get burnt out/bored even doing what we know well.

I think it's a bit difficult out of principle to completely avoid buying anything Japanese. The condensor fans and AC compressor are Japanese Nippondenso or Sanden on the OPs D1 to start with anyway, plus a fair bit of other components. So he has already bought something Japanese.
Much in the same way that my or your own ancestors might have committed atrocities against the Indigenous Australians, but it doesn't mean I'm going to completely avoid paying tax in case they receive any of my money. The current Jewish generation seem to have no qualms buying luxury German vehicles, either.
If it's only an interim job El Dud (ie. sub 12 months), and it'd put you in a better position to start anew up North, it might be well worth pursuing. Like Mr. Alba alluded to, "ideology without pragmatism is Tony Abbottism"![]()
