Dont kill it, ask the ranger to trap it and see if its someones pet, yes it should not be on your land, but kitties wander...

I love cats and dogs and yes mine have been known to wander.... if the owner is contacted then they can make sure tinkles is kept under control, if not then its the fate of the council and the blue mile...

If the cat is "feral" as you say, you'll do well to get close enough to it to bash its head in, wring its neck or cut its throat without it doing you a lot of damage first. I wouldn't even try it wearing welding gloves or similar.

We used to catch a lot of feral cats in traps on a minesite I worked at a while back, and even a trapped kitten is bloody dangerous.

A convenient (and I've been told, humane) way to knock them off is to place some type of cover (inverted plastic tub will do the job) over the trap with the cat still inside, with a fitting made into the plastic tub that is then connected via a length of vaccuum cleaner hose or similar to the exhaust pipe of your car with the engine running. From experience, this method puts them to sleep pretty quickly without any pain.

A mate down the road from here used to have a next door neighour (little old lady) who had literally dozens of cats, most of which used to venture into my mate's yard on a frequent basis. It's a wonder the little old lady never complained about how often my mate used to be working on / tuning his V8 Holden ute in his shed, as the engine could frequently be heard idling - and one of her cats would not show up for a feed that night.
Years ago at BHP it was quite common for the feral cats on site to go for a "jump" into the ingot mould just before some molten steel made its way in....

Nowadays they get trapped and destroyed or just shot.

Aspirin and milk will kill possums etc too so make sure you actually target the right animal.

Are you on a property or suburbia ?

If suburbia its NOT worth being charged with firearm offences coz of some freaking cat.

If you trap it and its a pet you can return it (or hold it hostage for a ransom ) !
If it's feral you can "deal" with it and just tell the council that you weren;t succesful in getting anything...
It's not broken. It's "Carbon Neutral".

    Tom Cats

If it's Tom Cat's your having trouble with, empty the pepper shaker on the area where they are spaying. As they always liken to have a nice big "sniff" first before they spray...I assure you that you will never see them again. My dad put me onto it and it definetly works.

probably not a popular comment, but let's remember that it's not the ferals fault that they're here - it's ours...so the least we can do is kill them as humanely as possible. They're just doing what comes naturally and I find it bizarre that people who would get upset if their dog got a thorn in it's foot sometimes seem to actually take pleasure in going out of their way to kill unwanted animals in inhumane ways...

Chuck some food scraps in a wheelie bin, wet a rag with some ether, wait for moggy to pop into the bin then toss the rag in and close the lid, He'll drop off to sleep and you can relocate him.

Get yourself a pair of huskies. They eat cats. My neigbour has just got a cat and he said to me the other day that my dogs better not kill his cat. I told him they won't unless of course it is in my garden then they will. He was not Happy with that comment. But then I hate the way cats **** I everyoneelse garden apart from their own

Mate, If I new where to get one I would buy two !!!

    Thanks all for the comments.

I woukd not give it back or relocate the things, they would die quickly.
As have they in the past.
I think of the suffering of the wildlife destroyed needlessly and then smile
    as the cat dies.

I dont mind cats, we have had them but none that survived hunted wildlife. The last ones we had, my Lorikeet used to walk around on and
    would groom them.
