    I would also definately be using high tensile bolts.

    Bolts that came with my winch were 8.8 HT.
    A few tonnes hanging from that tree > cable > winch > bolts > car.
    Weakest link breaks first.

    The diff between the cost of HT and normal isn't significant, so why would one not use HT anyway?
