About 10 Police were required to manhandle the patient from the car to the front door of the ward. My co-worker, a female, of about 5'5" and about 40Kg wringing wet, went to recieve the patient. As soon as the patient saw he was being handed over to a nurse, he stopped struggling and walked inside the ward un-assisted. It all has to do with the blue uniform, some people see it and out comes the agression, irrespective of the actions of the P wearing the uniform.

I wouldn't do the job if they paid me, but I admire (most) of those who have the courage to do it.
This will sound a bit like "you scratch my back...". but...

After seeing the facilities supplied and the treatment doled out to those working within the mental health industry,( by both patients and governments!) there is not a snowflakes chance that I would contemplate a job swap!! In SA the govt seems convinced that closing our mental health hospital (glenside) and selling the land off will somehow assist in the "re intregation" of the patients into society.

my admiration is with those doing the jobs that keep the 'wheels' turning.
    THANKS!

    Thanks to you too.

NSW post the Richmond Report in the mid 1980's is the same. Gladesville Hospital, where I worked is now up-market harbourside homes.

As you may or may not know, in the early years of the colony, it was illegal for "lunatics" to travel on the Kings Highway. Hence all the sandstone era "mental asylums" were on navigable rivers. Rozelle (Callan Park), Gladesville, Parramatta and Peat Island on the Hawkesbury. So all the Wran government could see was all the money it could save from kicking out the mentally ill and selling the land. While they did kick out the patients and have sold most of the land, the same patients are now mostly prisoners costing far more per person with very little chance of "cure".

You won't find me on: faceplant; Scipe; Infragam; LumpedIn; ShapCnat or Twitting. I'm just not that interesting.

I saw an interesting doco on bulletproof and knife proof clothing.

Standard kevlar is good at stopping bullets, but not knives it seems. Someone has developed a fluid that you pour on the fabric which also makes it hugely more resistant to stab and puncture attack.

Heres a text link: Liquid Armor: Science Videos - Science News - ScienCentral

I can't find the original video I saw it in....

    Cheers
