Thread: E 10 Confusion?

It depends on the vendor, most ones around me are 91 rating although there is one over at Five Dock that has E10 in a 95 rating.

Also 91 ULP is permitted to have up to E10 without telling you.

BTW I have never seen a E10 with an octane rating of the range you (& NRMA) mention.

The NRMA also indicate that E10 replaces Unleaded in NSW/ACT on 1 Jul 2011 not 2010 as I understood.

Also BP had convinced the NSW govt that all cars post 1987 (5?) can use E10 but Mazda have announced that none of their cars prior to 2005 can use E10.

The last I heard was that the oil companies were trying to convince government to drop the ULP altogether and migrate everyone to premium (at a premium price)

many servos have 3 fuels e10, premium 95 and premium 98 i think they are conditioning us for the removal of the 95 oct then they have us by the proverbials

BP have not sold normal unleaded for quite some time - the other brands still have it.

Will E10 damage series landrover motors, as I was told it would and not to us E10 but look for unleaded

E 10 is unleaded - just has 10% ethanol added. Unless your motor has been modified you should already be using a lead substitute additive or valve saver additive to your fuel anyway.

Ethanol can damage older rubbers in the fuel system and can attract water. Some people say it can damage - others have used it with no problems.

To be sure you should switch to premium unleaded (particularly if fuel will sit in tanks for long periods unused) but really it is your call as you may have no problems with E10 - there is a lot of misinformation on both sides of the argument.

Not supposed to use e10 but if you change the fuel lines to e10 safe (silecon) and get and e10 safe fuel pump and use uppercylinder lub you can get away with it> I have been using it for 3 + years as i will not pay $150 + per litre for fuel untill i have to. I think e10 is the begining we will have much higher levels pushed on us over the next 5 to 10 years and all fuel will have ethonal added to help the enviroment we wont have a choice
