Just what we need, 300 fat women from Chicago

I believe as part of the deal for Oprah coming over she has agreed to buy Queensland Rail.

At a guess you'll find the money will be coming out of Tourism Australia's normal budget.

There were figures on the news tonight that showed more Australians are going OS to holiday than people coming to Oz (partly due to the high A$, GFC and the state of economies OS)
This was to the tune of over 1 million people per year deficit.
Apparently tourism operators are doing it tough ATM.

Actually have to say its a good decision!
Go cost 2 hrs of prime daytime nation wide tv in the u.s alone (+multiple other countries it's sydicated to)and you will see It is an absolute bargain for tourisim and promotion of Oz and Sydney at an EXTREMELY cheap price. Particularly as this is her last season so more people will be watching than ever. Whoever managed to wrangle this deal at such a cheap price deserves credit not crap.

Actually we wont be paying anybody we just make less profit we are basically giving her a discount not paying her. but think of it for that 3 mil we get advertising in 147 countries and all of the US and Oprah to front the campaine cheaper than hoges or whats her name
most of the cost will be waving the fed taxes in and out of oz and cheap or free use of the opera house etc

isnt day time tv a means to make us think going to work is good instead of surfing or going to the pub ?

Of course, but my point was that I'm guessing it's not over and above money already budgeted for marketing Australian tourism, and IIRC industry tip a fair bit into that pot too.

Just one point about the title of the thread.

Every time you hear of needing more beds or a pollie telling us we are going to get more beds in hospitals don't believe them.

They can build 10,000 more beds in every hospital in the country and that will not put one more patient into those beds. There are simply not enough nurses in the World to fill the World's health needs. In fact we are losing more nurses by retirement than we are recruiting at the front door and even when we import nurses we lose our own nurses to higher paying countries.

The only way we will fill our hospitals with nurses to look after patients in the currently empty beds will be if we decide to pay more than other countries are prepared to pay.

Buggar the third world, it's a free market.

You won't find me on: faceplant; Scipe; Infragam; LumpedIn; ShapCnat or Twitting. I'm just not that interesting.
