    Transfer costs?

You pay stamp duty to transfer it into your name. You pay registration costs in your home state. If there is left over rego in the previous state it can be "cashed in" with that state.

i bought a car (subaru liberty) from sydney last year, i got a rwc to register it in victoria, on the day, he (the guy at vicroads) told me to park under the bay so he could check the numbers, then after i did that, he changed his mind about checking the vin and engine numbers, and said i didnt really need the rwc either, which i thought was odd, but he still processed it and the whole thing was alot more straight forward than i expected

My son purchased a car from NSW 8 months ago. Because it was currently registered all he had to do was get an RWC and surrender the NSW plates to vicroads. They did not want to see the car.

He then posted the receipt for the plates to NSW RTA to get a refund on rego.

I didn't buy the 2000 TD5 from Echuca that was advertised a month ago as the seller made a lot of bad notes about things wrong with it, a mate bought it and got it Reged a RWC for $4k on the road, all it need was brake pads the vandal damage was a few clear coat scratches, 1/2 hr buff and all was good. had a 2" lift and was chipped. I kick my self every time he shows me a pic of how good it is,
I hope the own I bought has a motor in it still
