What's the best way around this buying interstate

I just bought a vehicle from Tasmania, it only has one months rego left on it.
I've been told that Tasmania do not require Road worthy certificates.
I have booked passage on the ferry to pick up the vehicle.
So how do I go about it, I can supply a friends address in TAS and have the vehicle transfered & registered there in my name for the remaining rego time , but I presume I will have to pay a transfer fee and stamp duty which I believe is payable within 2 weeks to the TAS GOVT.
Or do I give the TAS address and then not pay any stamp duty fees, and get a road worthy certificate for it here in Vic and register it here in Vic .
    What have others done?

go get the car and transfer the car onto the vic reg system that way you will only pay stamp duty once for one transfer. To reg in vic you will need a rwc.

You should get a cover note for insurance until you sort it out.

If you're licence is Victorian ultimately you must get it registered in Vic if you are keeping it in Vic.
If it was mine, I would drive it back to Vic on the current rego and within the two weeks, get the roadworthy and present to Vicroads.

Agree with above post, thats the way I always done it.

Tell the old owner that you will send plates back for refund or proof but legally, all fines and or infringements are liable by you once you send the new owner rego form.
    Definately get a cover note.

Good luck on the journey, if you want a place to crash in SA, you are welcome to stay at my place, we have a sleep out you are welcome to.
    Cheers

Good time to get Gas put on if not already fitted.

Just get a receipt from the seller with their name, address, date and signed, the rego no. and Engine no. and vin or chassis no. on it and how much you paid. Then when you get to Vic. get a RWC and register it before the Tas. rego runs out. If it runs out you have to get it put over the pits.

The seller has a copy of the receipt as proof of sale so they're not lible for any costs or fines from the time/date.

Done interstate buys a few times. No hassle if you have receipt, Vic RWC and all numbers check out. Vicroads are usually good as long as it doesn't have 6" lift and 39" tyres.

    Cheers

GOOD TO SEE YOU BACK ,MATE
I’m pretty sure the dinosaurs died out when they stopped gathering food and started having meetings to discuss gathering food

A bookshop is one of the only pieces of evidence we have that people are still thinking
