    German Shepherds.. Great dogs!

I've got to say that having a big dog in the backyard is the best burglar alarm around.

My lad is a Mastiff crossed with a Labrador and Golden Retriever. Many people say he looks like a single headed version of that 3 headed dog thing off the Harry Potter movie. (See below)

I've trained him to be very quiet, but to bark when someone comes into the driveway. When he barks and growls, you'd certainly think long and hard about coming into the house!

Thanks folks. Got someone coming around on Monday to do the deed. Special thanks to those who PM'd me recommendations

As an aside; I never appreciated the ramifications of breaks ins. Stolen gear and insurance companies aside, it's the people issue that's the problem.

I haven't said before but I had a run in with the suspects (we think) that afternoon when they came back. Some words were exchanged, some angst but nothing physical. Unfortunately this was in full view of the family.

SWMBO's not sleeping, waiting for them come back in the night and "get us" and my teenage boys (who leave home after us and get home before us), are not keen on being at home without a parent there. So for the foreseeable future I'm at work from 9 to 3 and working from home otherwise.

I can imagine that it would be a terrible feeling. Completely understandable too.

A three headed dog might be a great idea right about now!

Speak to your alarm installer about a couple of fixed button duress alarms. As your lads are teenagers, they will understand when they can & cant use it. Have 1 in your bedroom at least, and one near to, but not next to, the front door.

As your in Qld, things are a bit easier with the police. Just make sure whoever you use is licenced, and is a member of an industry association.

And dont just take their word for it. Ask for the proof. Any good installer will be more than happy to show you.

Good dogs are but one part of the defence, good neighbours are another. Nothing or no-one moves down our street without either every dog in the line of advance passing on the message, or at least one of the people living here having a good look ,[we have a sprinkling of retirees strategicaly placed]Any moron who tries it on who is recognised as living in the area is paid a visit.Get to know your neighbours and stick together, basically the people who do this only pick on easy targets. I’m pretty sure the dinosaurs died out when they stopped gathering food and started having meetings to discuss gathering food

A bookshop is one of the only pieces of evidence we have that people are still thinking

I have also been thinking about an alarm as once my job finishes in Brisbane will probably go back to FIFO type jobs for awhile.

Dog would be good but I work long hours so not fair on the dog locked up for long periods plus the above FIFO thing.

Worked with a Bloke a few years back who had installed "screamers" in the ceiling of every room had a very high decibel output he was broken into twice but nothing taken it was that loud they got out with out taking anything.
