Wasn't comparing Design faults with cattle.

What you have there is what engineers call the Swiss Cheese Model.

    All your holes lined up.

If you're not driving the "Puss Box" Maybe you oughta move it along. Seems like a pretty expensive sort of thing to have sitting about the place flattening batteries and causing you grief.

When I bought this pussbox, I thought I was making a long term investment in a vehicle that was top knock, and to that end, I consider the poor resale value of these types of vehicles was not important.

Little did I know it was such a quantum leap backwards over the BMW powered RR.

I now have a vehicle that has no resale value so I’m stuck with it.

Have to be honest, I had to go up to Beechmount, up in the mountains above the Gold Coast yesterday, to pickup my daughter’s Subaru Forester Sport.

Because it’s such a winding road, about 25ks of hairpin bends, and it was raining, I decided the RR was the safer drive and it needed a good drive anyway.

Well it’s been about 15 years since I last drove a stick, and the Subaru flies.

I had a ball and give it a caning, even ware my cap backwards to look the part.

That was 50ks up there, driving the RR and 50ks back, driving the Subaru.

All I can say is that that Subaru was one fun drive, BUT I am glad I have the RR for long trips, if I ever use the RR again for long trips!

One question if you don't mind ...how do you get that new fangled invention called electricity into that dark cave you live in with all the other luddites to power up your good ol Commodore 64 PC so you can keep on responding about how crappy all modern LR's are? ...and to keep telling everyone how great your 'old Paj' is.

The modern world can be a scarry place to anyone who is so stuck in the past I guess.

    cheers,

To para-phrase....with decent tyres (yes, even 19s) and an experienced driver, a D4 is rated as better (may only be margins) than any other 4WD (with decent tyres and driver also) in it's class (off-road...on road there is no competition at all).

Even though the D4 has been flogged for the wheel size, it appears more often than not, the true restrictions are the quality of the available tyres. It appears most feel that a smaller wheel (bigger rubber) would improve the range of terrain the D4 3.0l could tackle but that certainly doesn't mean that the truck has suddenly become an AWD.

Probably the main restriction would be the drivers adversity to scratching and denting such an expensive bit of kit, but then the same applies to any new 4WD.....and I'd even suggest a Deefer. Most people would not be keen to fork out ~$50K plus and get it ripped up. If that then is the only arguement people should wait until D4s are old and then go for it. They could modify the bejabers out of them too, if they really felt the need, but I'm sure most wouldn't.

Maybe they should stop making new cars....

As I said, do some reading, especially threads by GGHAGGIS.

    Cheers,

    Kev.
I haven't missed many of gghaggis threads/posts,they are great, very informative, while we are at it,so are sniegy's

Just my opinion on the way it seems to be going.....

Lets not hijack this thread,or create another on tyres.

I just hope Drivesafe ,given time, gets confidence back with the RR
and finds a nicer name for it

I had many issues with the first D2 i bought my99,called it all types of things, swore i would never get another, but there is still one in the carport. That was back in the days when they only had 2 yrs warranty.

Oh,& the D2a i have now was over $50k,& at 3 months old did a long desert trip, heaps of scratches, chips, etc.I buy them to be used for their intended off road use.

Everybody is entitled to their opinion and it would be silly to let the facts get in the way...

GGHAGGIS just posted another interesting thread which included some serious cudos for D3s, his RRS and of course....a soft-roader D4...LOL!!! Of course it had 'his' 18's on it....must have made a world of difference....the D4 never would have made it without that massive configuration change.....please!

I had my D4 a week and had it up to the intake in a few creek crossings and had mud from tip to toe. It now has Lantana scratches all over it, chips all over the wheels, dented bash plates and torn mudflaps.....but for some, the quandry of roughing up vehicles that are becoming more and more expensive, may be the factor that relegates them to softroaders...not their performance....

Let's not hijack the thread any further. We should keep performance related posts to the relevant threads.

And yes, it's understandable that Drivesafe has lost confidence in his car and it would be great for him to get it back.

    Cheers,

    Kev.

Steering lock set to "not fitted" seems to prevent the steering lock from being operated. With the vehicle locked the steering wheel is still free to rock from side to side and there is no sound of the lock engaging or disengaging when locking and unlocking the vehicle. It should at least prevent the "steering column locked" message that often occurs just after startup and hopefully prevent a dangerous lockup in a dramatic battery drain situation.
