1. Should politicians be accountable to deliver on their election promises?
So if a government promised to spend more on public transport and during their term in office there is an outbreak of SARS, Swine flu and Bird flu, they should then refuse to spend any extra on health because all their spare funds are committed to public transport? Locking things in like that doesn't work because circumstances are constantly changing.
2. Should they be measured half yearly like just about every other working Australian?
There is an argument that the short time between elections is one of the driving forces behind populist politics. Imagine if politicians only ever looked forward to the next 6 monthly review instead of the next election. That would mark the end of long term planning for the benefit of the country.
3. Should their remuneration, benefits and retirement perks be paid to the same % as their performance?
I assume you want to be the one to judge their performance. Going by the comments on another thread here, some people would rate John Howard a failure and others think he was a success. So how should he have been remunerated?
