    My Fathers Day rant!!!

The more I read on all this the more I think the reality is just the inevitable creation of another new tax system enabling so called experts (wallet gouging, cream croppers) to make an overtly healthy buck moving money around instead of getting to work and getting their hands dirty fixing the real issue. And all with out the support of the people they supposedly represent. ISN'T/SHOULDN'T THAT BE THE REAL ISSUE HERE???

It seems to me carbon taxing will simply create carbon shedding (a'la EU) and destroy all chance of re-instating cleaner localised production and industry. Now wouldn't that localisation bring responsibilty for environment back to the producing and consuming country? Are we really expecting that relativley desperate new economies will grow moral fibre and move with us, or are we just going to say we don't want their exports anymore because they are dirty and stop consuming. What a load of crap on both counts.

I am afraid this is all just another new time wasting, twisting of the real issues (and solutions) by cream cropping tossers sitting around talking and schmoozing, with their snouts in the gravy boat instead of getting off their big fat arses and getting to work to rebuild our country locally. Whatever happened to leading by example and not expecting others to do things unles you are prepared to do it yourself? I mean, hell, are all government cars the most efficient available? Are all government buildings 5 star efficient? Are all politicians and public servants buying low carbon gravy? I doubt it all very much... but I bet they all still have their noses buried deeply in the gravy boat gobbling up everything they can from the taxes of the "little guys".

All these so called "brilliant minds" with no ability to actually deliver anything brilliant. I HOPE THEY ALL GROW A CONCIENCE AND ROT FROM THE INSIDE OUT... IT MAKES ME FEEL SICK JUST THINKING ABOUT IT, HOW DO THEY LIVE WITH THEMSELVES?

    P.S. HAPPY FATHERS DAY!

I get the impression that you don't want this comment to apply to Australia and any action it might take on combating climate change.

Some people believe we should apply your philosophy and set an example for the rest of the world to follow. Others disagree. I get the impression that you are one of those who disagrees.

Its not that I dont want action but the carbon tax/ ets scheme is a cheap cop out by the govt. and will result in more co2 output globally not less. All we are doing is following in the E.U's footsteps to make ourselves an importing carbon shedding country doing nothing for the real problem just making our books look pretty for a few years.
We should be saying stuff the greenies and building the best renewable which is hydro. look into solar and build wind but for serious base load power we should have 5-12 the size of the snowy up the east coast. To build would take 20 years over which time we could phase out of brown coal and slowly move over but we need to start yesterday as every day longer is a day to late.

If Australia wants to be leading by example, we should be coming up with a plan to phase out the coal export industry and to control population growth, not to export carbon production like Europe and promote a new scheme to wheel and deal your way to a quick buck. (Instead of massively expanding coal production and extolling a "big Australia", while patting ourselves on the back)

While this would have some chance of significantly impacting global warming, it would cause real hardship to a lot of Australians, and a lot of opprobrium from those who want to feel good without any real sacrifice, and hence is almost certain to not even rate consideration.

This thread continues to repeat itself on the polical agenda, unfortunately there is little do do with the pragmatic side of " green energy" good luck when your frequency floats and your prized electrical assets are deceased

Actually, I really like the concept of a global carbon economy... simply to stop the waste in shifting **** all over this planet and to re-start producing efficiently, closer to source. The last 30 odd years of capitalism driving globalisation forward has got us to this messed up point where the "developing" economies are now ready to boom and perhaps choke the planet in the process. The world probably needs the balance this could bring and it wouldn't hurt us to get some more production/manufacturing back inside our borders. Apparently we have more new immigrants coming that could need a job (or two thousand)!

In saying all that, to me a big fat tax in Australia is a lazy political "shedding" cop out. I also just hate that our elected rep's are happy to waste so much of all our hard earned trying to feather their own nests and make big names for themselves playing with it all on the international stage. This country is NOT a major global player or powerhouse in ANY sense so what are the dills doing?

I'm pretty sure we really are "**** ant small" in every way (bar coast line and land area per head). Given the miniscule impact and very low ranking globally in this area, I say we do not even have a moral obligation to lead with any of this. I do think that we should be strong enough to do what is right for us locally, and to start fixing our own issues (to an agenda and timeline that suits our own needs/priorities).

Then maybe we can get a little brave and put in place some ethical control taxes on the stuff moving in and out of our borders under the ****ty titles of "globalisation" and "free trade". Let's penalise the real "big business evil doers" continually producing to engineered obsolescence and raping this planet in the name of capitalism and consumerism. Why not stick it to them and leave the little fella with some serenity for a change?

On a lighter note.... Labour should be promoting that fella Smith(?) whose in the poo at the moment. First pollie in a very long time that can actually organize a root in a brothel!

Up until this post I thought it to be a lively debate, but no one has any alternates,it really is a diabolical situation.

We do pretty well with the things that matter. Australia had more Series I Land Rovers at our 60th anniversary in Cooma in 2008 than England had at their 50th anniversary celebrations.

That may have been helped by the fact that during the Snowy Mountains Scheme construction, Australia had the biggest Land Rover fleet in the world.

sorry, don't read that as I support one of the pollie duopoly over the other... This really was intended as a little humour in a sad and mostly depressing discussion.

I think they both lack "the right stuff" these days... and are not looking after this country or its people with regards to this subject or many others... They are all just in there satisfying their own needs and ego's and maintaining a status quo that has been dysfunctional for a long time now.

I reckon it's so knackered that maybe it's time for an alternative system without all these clowns. But that's for another thread some day.
