    OKA up for sale

    According to a news item today (Sat 29/11) the Malaysian business behind OKA may be jumping ship, and now KPMG are looking for expressions of interest...preferably with lots of money, to inves in, cosy up with or even purchase outright.

    Should'nt be too hard, - spend the money on buying the company instead of that top of the range 2012 RRS you were looking at...

    Just think how much gear you'd be able to fit in the back of the ultimate off-road camper for the drive around the Big Block

    Sad that another Aussie concept got lost between Original Idea and Customer Satisfaction... In this case overseas, and now its all but stuffed.

    Well, I have never seen one advertised and I guess if it was marketed a little better a few of the grey nomads would have spent some of their retirement on them. I'm living in a caravan park cabin at the moment and was talking with a group of caravaneers and mentioned the Oka and none of them had ever heard of it.

    There was plenty of marketing at 4WD and camping shows and various displays when they first came out. Lots of marketing at their target market. I don't think grey nomads or campervan dealers were their target market. They weren't cheap new.

    Saw one today driving up the Pentland hills towing a couple of stationary engines on a trailer. Obviously an enthusiast with his latest projects.

    Mining were they original target market, including exploration, but they never really got a foothold. Toyota pretty much ensured that.
    They are a great vehicle and I would love one. Just too expensive.
    I think the height and size generally scares off a lot of the grey nomads.
