Between 8pm and 9pm (NT time) on Sunday night 17 July 2011 I managed to log in once.

When I clicked on the 'new posts' link I then received that same message as at all other log in attempts - site is busy and registered users receive priority, please register then log in.

Frustrating no end when one can not even log in!
    Cheers, Dale

It's happening more often than not in the last weeks, to the point it takes 1/2 hour at times just to view one thread or post to a thread.

I can post up browser, AV, ISP etc, if it helps.
that is a session cookie issue i believe

you only get them if the server, for whatever reason, hasnt heard anything from your system for at least 12 minutes, normally. (i changed it to 20 minutes a few days ago and it doesn't seem to have altered anything, oddly enough)

    Session Timeout
This is the time in seconds that a user must remain inactive before their login session expires. This setting also controls how long a user will remain on Who's Online after their last activity.
    Setting is 1200 seconds
the conundrum is i can have people saying they are having problems where it takes 15 minutes for them to post, yet i can reply as quickly as i can type, which isnt that fast these days, to be frank.

still looking, and testing, am going to drop unregistered users to 40% but i have tried that in the past and it does nothing for those having issues.

Except I'm opening and reading/posting in multiple tabs (sometimes 6-8) when doing this ?
and all happening well under the twelve minute mark.

It's happened where I've opened a tab, read a post, typed a one line response and bang, "server too busy"

I've had it happen where i've opened new posts, scrolled down the list and clicked on multiple threads to open in new tabs and they've all copped the "STB" on opening.

Funny thing is that it's OK this morning and I haven't done a cookie clean or anything

all i have done it knock unregistered users down and turned the gallery off since last night, and cpu levels are the same as they usually are this time of day, if not marginally higher.

I must thank Dave Blears for providing me with a new password, one I should have no trouble remembering. For a while there I thought it was something I said Cheers , Bob

    1200 seconds, huh?

I have set my session cookies to permanent

    I never log out

    I entered General Chat

I read Philip A On the way to Cape York

I read sick of the kids?

I got the 'server is busy - log in' when trying to read Jokes

So I logged out - completely

    Logged back in again

    Refreshed the General chat forum

Less than 4 minutes from logging in I got the server is busy message.

AULRO is very busy at the moment. Registered users get priority when system load is high. Please try again later. To avoid this message, please register or login:

Getting worse lads, this is serious. How do I get valuable goof time off work when my fave site is clogged?

Dumb question: will the NBN make access to AULRO faster or will it allow the site to drown in spam attacks faster?

sorry it is a muck around for you

i can only tell you what i see and set

if it was the server alone, it would be affecting everyone and it isnt

i don't doubt for a moment the server is some of the problem, but it isnt all of the problems.

i am trying to fast track the new setup but there are only so many hours in a day..

unfortunately Inc I can relate to just about all the issues others have had mentioned above, with site failings.

I don't understan a lot of the computer jargin, but I ask the site to remember me each log in. I will find my cookies bag on my Mac and delete them, hopefully it makes a difference.

Thanks for you time and effort, must be frustrating when you provide a service and you get a bit of flack for it. I do appreciate this wonderful site immensely, just when you can't have what you are used to it's like I have lost a limb not being able to log on and spread out.

    All in good time,
    Jason
