Inc said the other night it is the ones who search frequently and upload pics that cause the problems not the ones who look at pages...

So mabe it is all those freeloaders/visitors searching to find info that is making problems...

and stop down loading pics everyone and maybe that will be better

that is not quite what i said, i said those two actions use the most cpu...

see how things go with the latest tweaks...

the gallery is closed for the moment while i see what is loading what.

the system has for months been hammered with break in attempts via ssh and database lookup floods and that is causing a lot of the issues as well but that is par for the course.

it isnt the end of the world, the internet and the site will still exist tomorrow (i hope )

registered users get priority hey, what about subscribers, at least i can still get onto ebay
and that should not be an issue related to the server even when loaded till just before it stalls

there are two primary causes for the behaviour other than system load here

    1) it is an issue with session cookies and your internet security package screwing with aulro.com cookies.

    or

    2) congested links

    a) either into pipe networks IX in brisbane from your ISP causing packets to be lost.

    b) you own link is too busy pulling movies or music etc causing packets to be lost.

the other major cause is the server has totally stalled @ 100% cpu usage or is 100% i/o bound which does ONLY happen at peak hours in the evening and early hours of the morning when it is doing daily maintenance and backups.

    FYI

and subscribers always have the highest priority.

as it currently stands and as i understand it

non registered ie non logged in users get blocked at 60% cpu load

registered users get blocked at 80% cpu load

subscribers at any level never get blocked UNLESS i have the software that controls that disabled, and that happens maybe twice a year when i have to do major updates, and only for a short period of time.

so if you have been having trouble for months then your problem certainly involves something other than just aulro.com servers i would most humbly suggest.

the place is certainly struggling to cope but if your a subscriber and you get errors saying you have been logged out, then that is a session cookie issue unless you have had no response from the server for 12 minutes........

if you get a lock out warning in red writing near the banners up the top then that is the server throttling users till it gets cpu or i/o back

non logged in users get a grey warning dialogue box when they are throttled and if you are logged in and see it then something is screwing with aulro.com cookies between here and you.

me personally, i have had no such an issue using multiple browsers and multiple logins at any hour of the day or night

    G'day Inc,

I might just go for the line on the DoS attacks, global searches, and all except.........
I'm still getting booted out as a registered subscriber when there are 199 guests logged onto the system. That kinda ****es me off.

Why the **** aren't these guest users booted out instead of us paying users???? You seriously need to get a better front end to this system my friend.

Just asking 'cos little ol' luddite me thinks this is not at all right. I'm seriously questioning what I'm getting from a subscription that I didn't get as a normal user. I could have had all this grief but saved my pennies.

******* it's taken me over 15 minutes just to enter this!!!!!! *******

    Cheers,
    Iain

the way the stats thing works with the software is that any one that tries to connect is counted even if they are boot off 5 secs later.

so it gives a false impression to some degree...

Sorry, I'm just not buying your browser cookie thing either Inc.

There are just too many of us experiencing these problems to put it down to browser or firewall software. The combinations and permutations on the mixture of various browser and firewall/anti virus software that we all use are just too great to accept that as a likely cause.

I could go for your ISP bandwidth thing though I'm suspecting it's a possibility on the bandwidth of the link to and from the AULRO server. Now, getting back to your mention of DoS attacks of recent times, it's possible that these things are screwing with the packets actually containing meaningful data going out from the server. This could potentially be where the problem lies and not at our end of the food chain. I know in my case CPU is around 15% and network utilisation is less than 0.05% (i.e it's idling and just sending keep alive messages).

Just my observations. I don't envy you the task of sifting through it all to find the root cause my friend.

    Cheers,
    Iain
