Wow, Not helping Used Car Salesmen Stereotype..
I was in Melbourne this week and so I went to
James Lane Motors
Lic. no. SC29081
1300 056 276
Cost of a local call (excl. Mobile & international calls) Abbotsford VIC
car yard to look at two HSE D3s, I asked if I could take one for a test drive and was told that I would have pay a deposit before the manager was willing to get either of the vehicles out so I could test drive it. I even said that I was from out of town. Has anyone else had this type of response?

Wow, Not helping Used Car Salesmen Stereotype..
I couldn't believe it!!
I have had a similar experience with a Southern Classic Cars (Land Rover) in Newcastle NSW.
As I was coming from interstate to look at a Range Rover and they wanted a deposit of $500 to be paid prior to me flying in.
I was told it would be refunded if I didn't want to go ahead with the deal so I thought ok.
I decided not to go ahead with the deal and 3 months later and numerous calls to the dealer principal and sales manager I am still waiting on a refund (which they have agreed to refund on all occasions).
As the deposit was paid over the phone with a credit car I have contacted the bank and the payment is now being pulled back.
Lesson learnt, don't pay anything until your happy to proceed with the purchase. I thought being a main dealer they would have had some integrity.
How wrong I was.
Obviously not interested in selling cars.

RR46 Thats my concern as well, I recently read an article reference this that warned against committing any money to a vehicle unless u were totally ready to purchase, because it consitutes a commitment to purchase.
Is this a new method of dirty tricks to lock purchases in?

As I was coming from interstate and I believed the car they were selling to be over priced $80000.00, I had told the salesman that if the price was to be more realistic I would get on a plain and fly up to check it out and if all was ok proceed with the purchase.
After I had told them what I thought it was worth (subject to seeing it and it being everything they had described) we agreed on a price that would see me fly up to check it out.
The dealer had said they needed a deposit as a sign of my commitment to be paid which I told was refundable subject to the agreed terms so I thought OK it's only $500. How wrong was I LOL.
The salesman said the manager was not interested in geting the car out without a deposit.
I looked at him and walked off, lets face it there are hundreds of car yards
and thousands of cars in private sales, I see it as a buyers market

I have heard of this before, I cannot believe dealers try this... It would be like paying $500.00 to go to a home open. Plenty of cars out there, hope you find the one you're after![]()
