Brian, your posts have been brilliant. Pat
I attended the annual meeting of the Harry A. Miller Club at Milwaukee this year. I have been a member for quite some time. I took a lot of photos over the weekend and will post them in fives. I will post the engine photos separately from the cars.
An on-site auction was held of appropriate items from the David Uihlein Estate. Notable was a Miller 91 engine "as is, where is" which sold for US$250,000, and some of the rarer DOHC conversion Ford T & A-B-C engines which fetched from $12,000 to $30,000.
A pair of supposedly genuine and unused Bugatti ID plates fetched $2,000. Here come two more fake Bugattis.
An unidentified three speed and reverse gearbox fetched $2,000. Phil Reilly and I eyeballed it and think it is probably a late 1930's Sparks-Thorne. If so, it was a bargain. It has a cast magnesium and heavily finned housing, and monster input shaft and output flange, obviously built to take lots of horsepower.
The blue car, the Iddings Special, has a HAL "Big Bertha" 210 c.i. Indy engine. HAL also made OHC & DOHC conversions for Ford T & A.

A few more. I will try to post 10 or 15 daily as I have time.
I went around a few times as passenger in the white 23 car, a Miller 183.

And five more. The blue car is a Kurtis Kraft KK500 built for Firestone Tyre for high speed testing at their Arizona facility which had a long banked oval track. Other than the engine it is identical to the car Bill Vukovich drove to win the Indy 500 in 1953 & 54. This car has a fuel injected Chrysler Hemi. Is it fast? Sure is.

And even more.
The shovel-nosed yellow DA Lubricant Special, No.7, is another Kurtis-Kraft. This one has independent front suspension using longitudinal Watts linkage like Kurtis beam axle cars. Not a success. The car does not handle well. It is owned by Bob Sirna of Michigan who also has a Reventlow Scarab and a 1952 Mexico Road Race Mercedes 300SL ex factory gull wing racer. The No. 7 developed fuel troubles and did little work over the weekend. Bob was greatly disappointed as it was "running like a Rolex two weeks before".

Another five. There are lots more.
The first photo is a Novi. There were two Novi there, neither with a Novi engine.
The last photo is an absolutely magnificent Miller 91 Front Wheel Drive.

Here are a few engine photos as a change from old race cars.
No. 23 is a Miller 183 c.i.
Next is a Mercer Raceabout
The next was made for the wealthy David Uihlein in his engineering works for sports car racing in the 1950's.

Some more engines.
1- A Miller 91, straight eight supercharged. The classic 91. This engine fetched US$250,000 at the auction.
2- A Miller 91, four in line supercharged. Rare, but not as sought after as the eights. These are virtually half of a 183 with the blower added. This one fetched $75,000.
3- A Miller centrifugal blower displayed for sale in one of the pits. Note how it is driven by both camshafts.
4 & 5- A restored Miller 91 in one of the cars. Note the intercooler. The machinists among you will appreciate the skill required to make these engines with the manual control machine tools of the time.
