I agree, both of our Lexus (Toyotas Really) have been pretty much like new underneath (Except the time when I pierced the sump on a rock...) and the last one had almost 300K on it. The present LS430 has a shiny exhaust system still at 175K!!!

I would however just suck up the oil leaks rather than own a characterless, lesser 4x4.

Spoted a RRC parked by the side of the road near one of my delivery points.
Spoted the trusty little marks on the road and new it was still the original motor

My three modern LR's and RR have had one oil leak between them,the transfer case leak in my 14 year old defender,funny enough the same leak toyota's have. Pat

Its ok, the wifes 2007 d4d prado with 53000kms leaks oil, and has done for some time. Whilst under warranty toyota thought it was acceptable enough but now the warranty has expired it now needs repairing.
So when we decide on a land rover (which one not sure yet) if it leaks oil thats ok by me. I have a painted garage and workshop floor so it just wipes up easily. Besides that it gives me another excuse to be outside.

Just look at oil leaks as "automatic chassis rust prevention system". Maybe it's a reason why early LRs have survived!

Disagree. My wife's Merc ML leaks more than my 13 year old Disco. In the 9 months my Disco's been parked in it's current spot, there's 3 oil drops on the concrete floor of the garage. Under the Merc, there's about 20.

However I did spend several months and a fair chunk of cash changing every gasket and oil line that I could get to!

Oil leaking is not a problem. It is only when it stops leaking that you need to worry.
