Shows and mags such as this are what stuffed owning high performance motor cars, even those driven within the law. Off road vehicles will go the same way. The mags/DVD's cant help but show wheel spinning, high flying 4x4's. Its what the small dick head sector want to see and do, ruining it for us all.

Me too... Saw 4WD Action stand at recent show in Melbourne... Definitely just a big money spinner with two "little Napoleans" (Roothy and Graeme) running around banging their own chests! It seems to me its all about power and control, and of course trying to sell their brand (and its continually growing product range).

Suppose someone's gotta step up to control this emerging "mechanical cowboy" class! Let 'em go I say. Anyone silly enough to swallow their crap should be left with them. At least they will all be in one place when the authorities decide to put them to the wall!!!

One of the reasons I stopped buying the Magazine is the fact that they emphasize so many modifications. We get people through our Driver Training that read the Mags, buy the gear come and do a course and pretty soon work out thay don't need half the crap on their car to do what they want to do. The recent call for Discoveries on this Forum by the Magazine in question specifically requested Modded cars. A diff lock lock and correct wheel placement will do the same thing as a set of 33's and a heap of right foot, not as spectacular on film but pretty effective at keeping mobile.

Can't say I am completely against it.

Maybe I have small tyre syndrome...but if standard Series, early patrols and even old land cruisers could climb Wirraba Ridge with only 28"-31" bar treads or RTMs and a home made winch for traction aids, why do the tracks still open today require 35" dia or bigger tyres and greater than 2" lifts? Winches, lockers, superior tread patterns and traction control are all so common now too! The ruts only get that way because of the much larger tyres..!

I do fear that this could make a lot of currently registered 'rigs' unregisterable, so instead they'll be trailered to the more interesting tracks where the owners might wreck the tracks without regard for damaging their car as they know they don't need to drive it home.

Ever heard of the boiling frog analagy? This round may not affect you personally, but once the govt. starts, they never stop at only one step and there is a good chance other changes will.

If no-one really objects to the first round of changes because "It won't affect me" then the govt will think they can just slide the next lot of changes through as well without issue. So even if these changes don't affect you, it's in your best intrests as a 4x4 enthusiast and bush camper to let them know you aren't happy.

Give them an inch, they'll take a mile.

How do larger tyres cause ruts - I have 35" on my vehicle and I do not damage ruts anymore than anyone else.

I guess the arguement would go the other way if you were following a convoy of 37" tyred vehicles & got hung up on the high point of the ruts ( wash my mouth out) that they created.
They would probably put your comment forward at your protests.
