The missus and I went into Brisbane CBD today in her Prado, 2 underground car parks we had to reverse out of as we were to high. standard tyres are 265/70/16 we are running 275/70/16's (they were the right price) so it is for all intents and purposes a stock Prado. It was a pain in the botty to tell the truth, we have reached the point where we are going to sell the Prado buy a Subaru outback for town/city/work commuting and keep modifying the disco, but probably never take it into the city as it is to high to fit most car parks unless they are outside.

Cities are already not friendly to full size 4wd's car parks are shrinking width wise and length. While I am hesitant to agree with the legislation as I think it is part of the growing nanny state poo poo we have to put up with, but I think that highly modified 4wd's don't really have a place in a city CBD

Its called choice........its a no brainer that most Brissie car parks won't accomodate 4bys because many were built when cars were smaller etc. Whereas Robina Town Centre here on the GC's new carparking...I can park Smokey in under ground parking no probs.

I have to go into Brissy a bit.....Smokey is 2.3metres..........just a case of finding outside parking. Otherwise I borrow the missus's car. I'd rather have my modified 4by than worry about whether the city was suitable for my car. In my book they have a place as with any vehicle....just up to the individual,

Maybe I have small tyre syndrome...but if standard Series, early patrols and even old land cruisers could climb Wirraba Ridge with only 28"-31" bar treads or RTMs and a home made winch for traction aids, why do the tracks still open today require 35" dia or bigger tyres and greater than 2" lifts? Winches, lockers, superior tread patterns and traction control are all so common now too! The ruts only get that way because of the much larger tyres..!

I do fear that this could make a lot of currently registered 'rigs' unregisterable, so instead they'll be trailered to the more interesting tracks where the owners might wreck the tracks without regard for damaging their car as they know they don't need to drive it home.
Wise words there Mark - you must have been reading the recent article I put together on the late Howard Ross which was published in the August LROC News.

I always thought that those people who 'had to' modify their vehicles with lifts and larger than standard tyres etc must have been very poor 4WD'ers if they needed all that 'help' to get through a tough spot.

Bolded part........are you ****ing kidding me. Are you sure your not a sarong wearing greenie? If you made that comment around a campfire I was at....I would slap you stupid. Then I would hand you to the line behind me.....what an insulting comment to fellow 4WDers. You certainly are not one,

Of course there was a time before lift kits, big wheels etc that 4wds and even 2wds got around Ok - managed to do it without all the modern accessories.

Violence will get you no where.

I agree with your sentiments 100% Stevo, But I think for Aulro at least, the appropriate location for this thread would be the Extreme Zone. Yeah not many of us check in there, but the ones that do are probably the only ones here that the pending legislation will affect anyway.
