    Waeco vs Engel

    Ok.... Experts.... Opinions please!

I am about to buy a fridge for the 4wd and tossing up either Waeco or Engel and dual zone or all one zone.

Now let the stallions loose and hit me!

I'm in a similar situation ... all I know is than Waecos are cheaper and quieter, and that the domed plastic lid doesn't lend itself to having things parked on it.

I look forward to reading the responses from the gurus

i have two engel's and em happy with them, no problems to date apart from the effort required to change the battery fork the temp gauge in my newer one

    1 x 32L
    1 x 40L

which is quitter?.......a mate of mines has a 60L waeco and i seem to remember a couple of fans running in the back ground in the dead of the night, don't get me wrong you can hear the compressor on the engel as well

i am also happy with one zone for all, when camping i seem to use everything in a timely manner with no need to freeze.........i do vacuum seal meat these days which means it last for ever in the fridge and no mess

i haven't owned a waeco so i cannot comment on there performance

I have a 60lt Engel and wouldn't trade it for the world .... my mate brought the Waeco and it spent the first month of its life back under warranty .. once he got it back it worked well .
I just am old fashioned in the way i like metal over plastics .
I like that Engel have agents everywhere .
Mine runs fairly quiet , and draws min on the battery too. I wouldn't mind a twozone for just the cryovac meats

    Waeco v Engel

Well gents, I have had an 80lt Waeco for about 5 years, before that a 40ly Chescold. The Chescold was great on gas, fantastic on 240v, but fairly ordinary on 12v. I have not had an ounce of trouble from my Waeco; when looking at changing from the Chescold I was always intending on getting a Engel, but when it came time I did my homework and came up with the 80lt Waeco. What sold me was the dual zone, dairy section, lightweight and value for money. At the time, for the same price as an Engel 60lt I got an 80lt Waeco with a slide, wiring loom and thermal cover.....that's value for money. I have not had any trouble with powering it; I use an 100ah gel battery and a 130w folding solar panel. It has been a great combination and as I said.....no problems at all.

    Ive got 3 engels.

never paid more than $100 for one and they were all purchased at garage sales where they had outlived the owners desire to go camping.

they've all been through hell since I got them and who knows how they were treated before then.
