i recently had a dose of SOL and did a round of the 3 classic car insurers to see if shannons could be bettered. my "fleet" consists of 2 1971/2 Morris vehicles (both on histroic rego) and the '94/5 Disco 300 TDi.
shannons was still cheaper by approx $100 than the other 2 (Lumly and Ryno) and would insure ALL my fleet no worries at all. the other 2 hummed and harred at some aspects of the vehicles. in one case they would not insure someand they were still dearer than shannons for less cars.

I would be checking that, my insurance was with Allianz through NAB.

    I was insured with the following extra / modifications;

    • UHF and aerial
    • ARB Deluxe Winch Bar
    • Safari Snorkel
    • 65mm Dobinson / Bilstein Suspension Lift
    • Extended Brake Lines
    • Extended ABS Lines
    • To be installed modified watts linkage
    • Cargo Barrier / Centre Divide / Top Shelf
    • Rear Drawers
    • Spot Lights
    • 50l fridge and fridge slide
The only reason I am currently looking for new insurance is that Allianze will only cover a vehicle with a maximum of 75mm lift.

I now have a 32mm body lift and a 65mm suspension lift. Prior to the body lift they had no issues insuring my vehicle.

Even though it is all legal and road worthy I guess they have their policies.

I know Allianz used to ensure vehicles with some modifications, as I had a previous Falcon insured with them, but it seems they've got stricted as soon as you click 'Yes' on the Online Quote to the question 'Is the vehicle modified?' it gives the result at the end that they won't insure you.

An acquaintance had his Defender insured with Alliance and modified the rear windows to lift up - when he advised Alliance they cancelled his insurance on the spot.

And exactly how did you get an SRS equipped body lift passed?

Even if an engineer says yes, it's still a big no in Australia.

    Tombie,

I will be having the final inspection over the pits by Queensland Transport in the next couple of months.

In theory it is possible to do.

You need to apply in writing to Qld Transport with a modification application form detailing the process and giving all vehicle details.

They send you back a letter for "Approval in Principle" pending a final inspection.

At the end of the day, it is still a seperate chassis vehicle, all sensors are contained within the body, bullbar etc still mount to the chassis. Stability control uses sensors to gauge tilt and so on and will still operate accordingly.

From what I have researched on RAVE regarding the operation of the sensors I can not see how they would negatively be affected by the body lift.

As I mentioned above though, at this stage the inspector could still knock the body lift back.

You can check out my build thread for any further information and also a copy of the approval letter outlining the conditions for the lift.
