Try planting a few landmines. Excellent deterrent.
Failing that, buy a big pot of cheap chilli powder and sprinkle that around the favourite flowerbed. Works a treat.![]()
Brought my first house(and in Australia
)
but the local cats are seeming to enjoy crapping on the flower bed outside the door
As much as I would like to deter them with forceful means, those days are over and so wanting to know what plants we can plant or other natural things we can do to keep them off.
Any suggestions?
thanks

Simple. You just build one of these.

X2 the chilli powder, just remember it's there next time you dig up the garden bed, if you rub your eyes you'll remember fast!
D4 SDV6, a blank canvas
Orange peel

Grevillea or other prickly native shrubs.
Vinegar sprayed over everything will do the trick, thats how i stopped my wifes cats going near my cars.
Had the same problem tried sonic deterrents, plants they are supposed to not like, lion poo, and such like none worked,
Know a dog is no solution as i used to own a cat which chased dogs for fun.
Best fun was a super soaker water pistol from the window. Became a crack shot able to load and fire very accurately and quickly. Even that only worked part of the time.
Most effective was Rose bush cuttings spread over the soil and garden edge. They seem to have a weak spot in their soft paws. Would watch them attempting to move the cutting and jumping back when they caught a thorn. After a while they gave up and moved on to someone elses garden.
There are commercially available deterrents available, one I have been using is called Repellent for dogs and cats that I bought from a pet store. It's in a spray bottle and seems to be working. I used to have a tomcat spraying on my County mudflaps and windscreen and around the house - we have 2 neutered females. Seems to have worked, I know the tomcat still comes around but it seems to irritate him and stops him spraying. The biggest problem is the owners - people who have tomcats, won't get them neutered and let them out at night. I even tried trapping him, but he were too cunning to go in the trap. If I could have caught him it would have went to the pound where the council puts them down if they aren't registered. Very frustrating, the smell is obnoxious in the hot weather and it's hard to get rid of it.
