Why not? It's more use than someone who has theirs as a general driver/toy, it gets used for a job

Who is meant to buy these new cars?

Those are the ones that go into hardware/trade stores, whinge about the price of stuff or crack it because it isn't available at short notice for a job with which they've failed to properly quote and procure all required items beforehand.

If you smoke or elect to drive a car that does 3MPG, don't complain about the price of things!

All the overly plastic adorned ford/holden performance utes truly are useless trade vehicles with crap loadspace areas, typically driven by an inner city tradesperson demographic down Chapel street for image projection.

Steel trays, racks, vans, canopies, aluminium lockers etc are surely all better propositions?

Not all the time, lots tow a trade trailer which they are suited for, plus they get to have their toy aswell, a compromise, cause despite the fact they might have that vehicle, it's likely their sole vehicle

Plus there has to be some perks for putting up with the general public who generally whine about how much it costs to have you there and why you drive a new ute

I would buy one in a snap if I could afford it; landy to play off road, ute to play on road (and no I dont mean to break the law driving at warp speed I can break the speed limit in my landy quite sucessfully if I want to)

    Thumbs down

Not from my experience, the over 50s complained more about trivial things, would not adapt to changes and generally would not accept any feedback.

Obviously not all of them, just the ones I had experience with. I'd prefer to employ a young, keen kid anyday.

Isn't it the case that a lot of 50 year olds have grown up in an era when the expectation was that they would enter a profession or trade after school and work at that job for most of their life.

Today's school leavers on the other hand are well aware of the fact that they will, on average, work in eight different jobs during their working life.

Apart from all the other advantages that 50 year old employees have over teenagers, doesn't that mind set mean they are more likely to be a reliable, committed employee? Isn't it more likely that they would see a job as a job for (the rest of their) life?

Is there some complicating factor like superannuation that makes it better to employ a young person?

I guess I was guilty of a generalisation based on my own observations. Everyone deserves to be judged for themselves, not for the age group to which they belong.

If you get a Tradie that comes in a rig like that (from the 1st post of thread) you are definitely paying too much.

    heres my version

The way I set my Charges is if I , as a homeowner, were paying for a service how much would I be willing to pay for a quality job.

I'm going to lay it on the line here & say I charge $90 callout & $60 ph hour,
some of my competition ask a callout of $140 with MINIMUM of 4 hours even if the job takes 30 mins, AND PEOPLE PAY IT.

And what about what you can't see in the photo, Geophys equipment like a GPR unit, try getting one for under $20 grand, and your average EMF locator will set you back between $8,000 - $12,000.

Bottom line is if you reckon trades are getting paid too much its because people keep paying them the bloody ridiculous prices they are charging.

Seems chookcam was more popular than I thought,

We have the property for sale (any land developers watching ??)
and the domain was up for renewal & since Im winding everything down including the ADSL account there was no sense in keeping it going.

The bandwidth it used was a lot more than a NextG mobile broadband will cope with which is what we are switching to as will be on the road for 12 mths.
