    Rant warning on

I guess the question was "what do people think" ...

But honestly, this thread is starting to get like one of the recurrent TD5 engine threads ... or a toymotor Diesel V8 thread ... or any number of others.

    a) Just because you didn't get (obviously) harmed while smoking pot doesn't mean other people won't. Just like getting home safely while driving blind drunk doesn't prove it's a safe thing to do.

    b) Just because your mate went crazy after smoking weed doesn't mean everyone will.

My suggestion, fwiw, is for people to speak of what they know, and let others speak of what they know.

There is professional debate over the role of cannabis and psychosis: can it cause it or does it just worsen it? And these are detailed comparisons with group numbers in the tens of thousands, not "me" or "two of my mates." As I read the data, the answer is "probably tip you over the edge if you were close already." But there are other opinions.

What isn't open to debate is whether "stoned" is an impaired state of mind. It is. Are some people capable enough to succeed anyway? Sure. Is having both legs cut off a disability? or can you still get to the regular Olympics as a runner? [ame="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oscar_Pistorius"]Oscar Pistorius - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia[/ame]

It's obvious there are people here with personal experience, and professional experience, and some with both.

Don't assume that your experience is the whole story.

And for God's sake remember there are young people reading who may, or may not, be at risk of harm but WILL be offered cannabis.

I think you will find the YOUNG PEOPLE today have little interest in cannabis. The quit smoking message is working, many wont smoke anything, legal or illegal.YET they are happy to take party pills, ice, speed and worse.
They other reason pot is unfashionable these days is the amout of worksite random drug tests. One smoke and its in your system and detectable for a week or more, with party drugs they are undetectable after 48hrs.
Enybody ever worked with a speed freak or pill popper when they are coming down???? give me a stoner as a workmate anyday.

yep, had the joy of employing a few over the years. Being dumb to it all, and too understanding, it took me a while to work it out. Part of the reason I don't employ these days.

I wrote a paper on this years ago, playing both sides of the fence.

With pro's and con's the major con is that it is a lead in drug where people get exposed to harder drugs.

Decriminalising it is supposed to remove that con to some extent but I have never seen any proof of that as it's all to easy to convince young people to go for that better buzz.

Had mates started on pot, through the chemistry set (speed, cocaine, etc)with the dead ones going to heroin

    All Drugs are harmful

All drugs are harmful in some way. However, humans beings have been using some type of drug to relax and as a social lubricant since the dawn of time. The trick is to find the drug that suits YOU.
Unfortunately in Australia there are no legal choices. Alcohol doesn't suit a lot of people.
I use marijuana a few times a week and have done for ten years. I use a vaporiser, so no smoke to bugger my lungs. This suits me. Each to their own.

As Andrew said, most are gone from urine within a short time frame. Just so we know how long drugs stay in your system:

Alcohol - 3-5 days in urine (eTg), up to 90 in hair and around 10 - 12 hours in blood.

Amphetamines - 1 to 3 days in urine, up to 90 in hair and around 12 hours in blood.

MDMA (Ecstasy) 3-4 days in urine, up to 90 in hair and 1 - 2 days in blood.

Barbiturates - 2 to 4 days in urine, up to 90 in hair and 1 to 2 days in blood.

Phenobarbital - 2 to 3 weeks in urine, up to 90 in hair and up to a week in blood.

Benzodiazapines - 3 to 6 weeks in urine, up to 90 in hair and 2 - 3 days in blood.

Marijuana - 7 to 30 days in urine, up to 90 days in hair, two weeks in blood.

Methamphetamine (crystal) - 3 to 6 days in urine, up 90 in hair, 24 - 72 hours in blood.

Cocaine - 3 to 4 days in urine, up to 90 days in hair, 1 - 2 days in blood.

Codeine - 1 day in urine, up to 90 days in hair, 12 hours in blood.

Fentanyl - 1 day in urine, up to 90 days in hair, 4 hours in blood.

Morphine - 2 -3 days in urine, up to 90 in hair, 6 - 8 hours in blood.

Heroin - 3 to 4 days in urine, up to 90 in hair, up to 12 hours in blood.

LSD - 1 to 3 days in urine, up to 3 days in hair, 2 - 3 hours in blood.

    Methadone - 3 - 4 days in urine, up to 90 in hair, 24 - 36 hours in blood.

PCP - up to 30 days in urine, up to 90 days in hair, 2 - 4 days in blood.

I wouldnt say that. Around and eighth of my school smoke pot. Everyone in class talks about it. They even chop up IN class. And a lot of people smoke cigarettes too.

Also depends if you are a glass half full or a glass half empty person.....

    The majority of young people from I have seen have the following habits (I work with 150 people of an average age of 25.);

Gen X: Binge drinkers and do not smoke tobacco unless they are a regular smoker. Minority smoke Pot and very few do hard drugs.

Gen Y-Z: Most of them don't drink much, all like 'social' tobacco smoking, and as a rule prefer 'party drugs' to alcohol.

Have you thought about doing a simple email survey to gain actual data for your assignment. AULRO has a voting function you could use?

True, but I also wanted to see if there was any difference between emergency workers and just normal Landy Enthusiasts. I can only collect info like that this way.
