    Question Disco II ????

G'day all, Im new to this site but no stranger to 4wding.
I'd like to get some info out of you guys.
Me, my wife & 2 kids are planning a 3yr trip around Australia, I currently own a SWB GQ Patrol and Im looking for something with a bit more room and a bit more cumfort and a Td5 Disco II is one of the 4wd's I have in mind.
I will be towing a 1350kg (dry weight) offroad camper and also the vehicle will be loaded up.
Is the Td5 Disco up for it? what are the service's like? is it hard to get parts and trick bits? can you get a chip for them, the factory diff lock they have how does it work Air/elec/vac or auto?

It would be great to get some Land Rover owners opinions

The more info the better cause I have about 10 months to find, buy and set up before we hit the frog and toad.
    Thanks

As everyone will say, look in the designated Disco 2 section under the "PINNACLES" section of the forum. There is more information here than you can poke a stick at! in short, i think everyone will tell you to go for the latest D2 you can afford, preferably a D2a, and that will have all the teething issues (3 amigos etc) sorted probably, and also the CDL installed etc etc. Anway, have a look where I said and sit back and read for probably the next 10 months! Enjoy your trip "around the block" when you get there.

A D2 is more capable and more comfortable than most other vehicles out there!
Like Barney said, go to the Disco 2 section for anything you need to know.

    Welcome to the Forum!

As the boys said - the Pinnacles is where you get the goss. That said, I have a D2 and regularly tow a T-Van which is about the same weight as what you're towing. Mine has SLS (self levelling rear suspension) which I find great too - it can be made reliable and spares are easy to get (when you know how!)

You can't beat the D2 for comfort though - I'm yet to ride in a more comfy 4wd (my folks 200 series sahara included!) .

Oh and I have chip and some other stuff done which makes towing a pleasure - plenty of info throughout AULRO
